I think John that you will find it refers to when being logged if you keep your nose clean for the rest of the voyage the fine and the logging will be entered in the official log book as cancelled, because a lot of skippers knew that when some of the lads got into trouble it was completley out of character for them but the captain at the time of the offence had no option but to log them, as not logging them would have set a precedent for the rest of the crew. Also it made the unfortunate crew member stay on the straight and narrow and not deviate down the DR route in the Discharge Book.

Because as mates and masters we know that even good lads get into trouble and are led astray, and no one wants to lose a good seamen or ruin his chances of getting a decent ship again

    Question not sure

Thanks for your replies I have since been speaking to an Ex- seaman who was DR and does not go on line,

I am not too sure about this but he told me if you accept the logging under pending pay off,
no one can be payed off in the home port untill the union has sorted out your fine.

    Have a good day John.
