    Default Port Of Liverpool

Peel Holdings (owners of L'pool docks) have just unveiled plans for the port tobe able to handle much larger ships than at present. The ships would not have to come into the dock system, which presently restricts the size of the ships that Liverpool can handle.Large ships would stay on the riverside of Seaforth Container Base. What is envisaged is that many small ports would be opened up along the Manchester Ship Canal, cargo would be loaded into lighters on the Mersey from these large ships and towed up the canal to these small ports. How these projections are made I don't know.
Another bit of info is a statement is going tobe made in the next two weeks regarding the use of the Liner Terminal at the Pier Head.It will be good news for people who like to go cruising who live in the North who at present have to travel to Southampton.Liverpool is not allowed to use the terminal as an embarkation point it can only be used as a calliing port.
    Regards.

The use of the terminal at the pier head would a great boost to liverpool and the cruising fraternity. Having cruised from the langton dock and the wonderfull view of that giant scrap heap its not a good start to a holliday, not forgetting the access to and from!! Being a genuine scouser and serving my time on the dock from one ship to the other, yes some of it is memories for me but not so for visitors. So lets have that terminal to cruise from and the beutifull view of our waterfront Eddie Grant.

Hi Eddie, yes the Langton Dock and the srap metal heaps are not a very good impression for first time visitors to Liverpool.Fred Olsen has now pulled out I think he was the last was he not.As you know it's all about European money that went into building the cruise terminal,Southampton object to Liverpool having this facility which cost L'pool nothing.Southampton having paid for the terminals themselves I suppose are looking for a return on their investment thus their objection to L'pool being used as a turn around port.
Joe Anderson, leader of L'pool city council is confident he will have good news in the next two weeks lets hope so,this will be very good for the city and for the Northern people who like todo cruising.
    Regards.

When I sailed back from Freemantle in 2005, on the Funchal, with 400 ex Liverpool ex pats on board, the Rockingham Mafia, all visiting Liverpool for the last time, we docked in Langton Dock. It was raining, the stink from the chemical plant and the sight of the piles of scrap iron it was awful. They were all saying `Why have we come home to this`.

I was invited to the opening of the new Terminal, by the Duke of Kent, the Mayor, Cunards MD, bands playing and so on, many speeches, when the QE2 berthed there and was under the impression that this was really going to be a Terminal and that would really boost trade for Liverpool. but was wrong.
Still waiting to join a ship there.

Jim,used to go in the Spanish bar with my late brother, (himself a seaman ) the bar had a tiled roof,
There was an old woman always in there, on a Saturday she wore a red or blue beret , depending on what team had won, probably a lady of the night when she was younger ,much, much younger ,
    Happy times .

Recall when in Liverpool (Canada dock) went to the movies one night with a mate. A couple of `birds` in the row in front of us caught our eye so started chatting to them before the lights lowered. Our accent they realised were not scouse and soo asked where we were from ,when we said London ,one of the girls blurted out in a thick Liverpool accent ``ohh do you know Tommy Steele ?!!`` The village of London !
