My wife
This is hard, how do I put it in words.
My wife has gone into a care home because she has the early signs of dementia.
We have been suffering between us for about a year.
I feel so lonely without her-57 years married.

Mike, I am very sorry to hear that and I can sympathise with you. I had been caring daily since March last year (until June this year) for an elderly aunt who was diagnosed two years previous to that; but it is such an insidious illness that virtually every case is different. I think the only predictable thing about is that it is unpredictable. I think your consolation would be that she is going to be looked after, I know that would have been heavy on yourself and there comes a time, difficult though it is, to take the advice that both of you will be better off and safer in the long run.
You take care and my best wishes to you both.

Re: My wife
Would echo the above thought Mike, it seems that as we get older life can be more bleak. Holding hands and talking can be a help i would think, but it is a heart rendering illness to be sure, all the best wishes to you both Mike, kt

Re: My wife
Mike I am dreading the day when it happens to me because Val has been slowly getting nearer to that day, the only consolation we have is they will be well looked after but is it devastating watching our loved ones go down that path and there is nothing we can do about it, stay strong and take care of yourself. Re: My wife
My sympathies to you, Mike. Let us all cherish the days we have left with our loved ones and friends. Take care of yourself, and share with us whenever it feels appropriate.
