Prickly Heat
How many of us suffered from Prickly Heat?
When on leave the itch would drive me crazy.
It stopped once I got back to sea and I got the wind and sun on my body again.
If on a cold trip, it still persisted.
Did any of you find a cure?

Re: Prickly Heat
Was lucky myself that i only ever recall once having that , and it was soon cured with lots of Calamine Lotion, took the Itch away fast!
These days people who get it i hear take Anti Histamine Tabs. My Son gets that sort of thing quite often here in the Summer Months!
Just the Sweat pours clogging and does not let the Moisture out!
But can be somewhat painful as well.
Cheers

Re: Prickly Heat
A lot of guys got it on the UCL runs.
But we had a powder, bit like Talc which stopped it.
Recall when first coming to Oz asked at the pharmacy for some, had no idea what I was talking about.

Re: Prickly Heat
Remember as well now that you mention the UCL John, that a lot of the Guys that used to get that Prickly Heat , went to the MO and he used to give them Pine Tar Lotion it was as i recall very very good! Saved a lot of lost Sleep i can tell you with the scratching and movements that went on, LOL
Also at that time Johnson's used to make a Powder called Prickly Heat Powder! It too was great!

Re: Prickly Heat
Engine room staff on steam ships were suspect to suffering from prickly heat.
The only cure known to us for it were salt tablets. Of course only wearing a vest and underpants under a heavy boiler suit in high engine room temps was the reason we caught it.

Fouro.

I once knew a guy (first tripper) who wore his doby drawers four times before washing, normal way, then back to front, then same again inside out, and he wondered why he got rice b-lls.

Re: Prickly Heat
Good company man Tony , knew the advantages of saving fresh water for the company , either that or he was a scruffy basket . Best to stand up wind in either case . Cheers JS

Re: Prickly Heat
Boy did we suffer .
At home I had a steel outside Door and the cold surface was great .
My poor dog was wondering what to hell was going on.
Worse than that I think was the jute moth.
Poor 4th on nights stood underneath the intake fan and the chopped up moths landed on him Felt sorry for him He never done it again I tell you
