One of the problems here in Oz and possibly UK as well is the lack of qualified ambos, nurses, doctors, surgeons etc.

The rate of processing these professionals is part of the problem.
It requires six years at Uni to qualify as an ambo and the attrition rate in the medical course of any uni is the worst of all.
So many enter with high expectations but as the course progresses they come to realize maybe this is not for them.

I spent 14 years in the uni system where we had a school of nursing, only around 60% of first year students completed the four year course.

Melbourne uni, the top state one went some 10 years without filling all first year positions. The problem is getting the right type of persons interested in medical courses.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

When I joined the ambulance service in 1989 after giving up on a career fishing, because of the restrictions the government was bringing in, and following in Dad's footsteps the priority was the patient. When I left in ?2004 all that mattered was targets and budgets.

After he had his bypass Dad got ill again about 4 days after getting home. The GP wanted him back in for tests, she booked the ambulance at 1330, we called 999 at 1915 when it still hadn't arrived as he was getting breathless. He came from about 15 miles away as they were closest.

#31.. A bit different than what we had to do John. A couple of days on a St.Johns ambulance first aid course, and a later course for a week on the. Shipmasters medical course. The latter covering childbirth, drugs, rescusitation, and various other issues. The childbirth and Mariians recent post on some bloke in the states given birth. Who maybe called the Messiah. Would have to get Dr. Kildare in for that one. Or maybe the three wise men if they were handy. He must have been one of these weird ones who fell down and got up himself, should have been more careful and wore a contraceptive. JWS. PS. Getting back to childbirth , would be lost now since the loss of the old penny as was a means of measurement of dilation. So apart from being of use in the examination room for drawing a circle, paying Cappy off, and assisting in childbirth, it probably had other uses as well as buying an oxo cube. The treasury should always think twice when interfering with the currency. Cheers JWS.

That conjures up visions of this male bearer of a child. Could maybe use one of our green garden bins we have here. Although square shouldn’t make much difference. Did the half crown go out of circulation the same time as the penny. Know the pound coin replaced the note. Maybe could have maybe kidded yourself and used a fiver. Reckon you did get that 1/7d I paid you. Hold on to just in case Mary needs a hand, otherwise the garden shovel can be used in an emergency. Just remember Abraham’s wife Sarah gave birth at 90 so there’s still hope as long as there’s some life in the old dog. Have you been fishing lately through that hole in the ice you cut in the Tyne every year.?? Your bruv..JWS

    hi jim
the hospital was the southport general, and as I stated the triage waiting time was seven hours, it was at the time of going to the hospital about two in the morning 2am,
the fall was actually june 2016 .but I accidently refered to it as last year, I had fallen off the garage at about 10pm (and no I was not trying to park the car ) and I was hurt bad, when I said I was sleeping I was more semi conscious and in dreadful pain with my ribs.
anyway southport is full of eastern Europeans and so was the hospital that morning, how did I know they where foreigners because some of them where drunk and the noise out of them talking was driving me nuts, and if I had not gone when I did then I was going to chin the idiot kicking and screaming at the drinks machine. needles to say I didn't take paracetamol for four weeks as the truth was it was near three months and my ribs where still healing six months later.

Rob, listened to Jeremy Vine shown in Radio Two about NHS and nurses. He was discussing amount of people who come from abroad to nurse in NHS. A spokesman said yes , there are a lot, but the opposite is a lot of UK nurse leave to go abroad when their training is complete.

You need a system here that takes the substance abusers out , a caged area where they can sober up and a £50 charge for using it , then charge the idiots who cannot be bothered to go to the chemist for aa plaster , tthen it will work
