Recreational Drugs.
The nearest town to where I live is going to be the testing place for a new controversial trial of people out of work and claiming unemployment benefits they will be subject to a drug test and will probably have all benefits stopped if prove positive. Before all the do gooders and those who are against this as against the animal rights, I suggest they read a statement made by an ex SAS soldier who states they were periodically tested for drugs. Whilst going out on search and destroy missions of the Taliban in Afghanistan. If it's good enough for our soldiers it's surely good enough for in most cases the flotsam of society. This is one that most normal people will agree with the approach the government is making. Should have been done a long time ago. JWS

Re: Recreational Drugs.
from previous posts my opinion o the illegal recreational drugs are well documented and add booze to tht , none of them to me bring anything but self destruction , I would test , test and test again . if you can afford drugs on benefits , you are going short of something else or your benefits are too high .

###after what i saw a young fine married employee end up...after starting on cannabis .......and ending up with a gun trying to rob a bank .....i would hang all dealers out of hand.....changed from a great hard working smiling young man into a theiving piece of humanity .....ended up with 8 years lost wife and kids and a shadow of what he was .....it was soul destroying to see happen.....the penalty for dealing should be death......half of crime would stop ......selling someone drugs is like giving a 2 year old child a loaded gun to play with..... cappy

Re: Recreational Drugs.
My son is a miner. Before he can go to work he is tested for drugs.
This is common in many jobs over here.

Re: Recreational Drugs.
About time too, the term" recreational drugs" is so misleading. My last two jobs I had to be drug tested and that's been over the last thirty years ( power station, airport pushback driver) breath testing almost on a daily basis at the airport, any refusal I got sent home . Let's hope the idea catches on and more company's do it..

Re: Recreational Drugs.
Hi John.
They were asking people on TV if they approved, I was surprised at how many people said their jobs description required them to agree to drug testing. I know one of the strongest unions the Building Workers are all drug tested, it's now a common practice here so i can't see any reason why people getting benefits can't be tested, over 80,000 have been on the dole for 10 years and there are still adds in the paper for work.

It's been done to seamen for a long time now also. Mostly when they are on their own time off and returning to their home. The only difference is that. The ship is their home. More so in the case of alcohol. JWS

Re: Recreational Drugs.
Hi John.
One term that I can't get around is the Far Left, how Far Left can you go before you become the Far Right. These people who want to change History; the Far Left, young people being manipulated by whom, are sure to repeat the mistakes by not reading it.
One thing that makes me mad is that we have to copy the US, they pull statues of civil war Generals and soldiers down, so some clown here including the Mayor of Sydney wants to get rid of Statues of Queen Victoria, Capt Cook, Bligh etc, they have already got one clown who has been writing Graffiti all over them. I am not a fan of Queen Victoria I think she should have been shot, but it is our history and like it or not it can't be changed by destroying statues.

Re: Recreational Drugs.
Des the recent defacing of Captain Cooks statue in Sydney just shows the intelligence of those who defaced the same. Captain Cook was responsible for all the charting of the coastline of Australia such as it is. There are still huge areas of unchartered waters which have remained from his time. The people in charge of Australia have never followed up on his example and done very little, so Cook to any sane person is a hero for Australia and was the start of most mercantile trade. I see these idiotic groups as just pure envious and ignorant people who have to have something or someone to demonstrate against and are the yobbos of society the rest of the populace could do without. The eleven years I worked on the coast out here have worked on most areas of the coastline so am more aware of the good work done by our ancestors which the average shore working Australian is not. If it wasn't for the early settlers and explorers Australia would still be living in the dark ages. As regards far left and far right just think of the whole shebang of them being one large foo foo bird, when the left meets the right to form one large circle they hopefully fly up each other's ass hole and disappear. Cheers JWS
