Vertigo
Hi All.
Woke up 3am Thur shouting WHOH!! WHOH!! and clinging onto the mattress as the room spun around me, for one split second I thought that they had started the last world war and the Earth was flying into space, then my wife grabbed my arm and I lay there, she said are you alright? Do you want me to ring for an ambulance? I said no I think i'm ok now ;then of I went again every thing whirling around, so she called an ambulance, they took me into the emergency room. A Chinese Dr examined me and did a few checks to make sure I hadn't had a stroke, [the nurse was too far away] then he said I think you are ok now; you can go home. [This was 3am and all I had on was a pair of shorty pajamas and thongs on my feet ]
I got up and whoh! i was off again. This time he said I'm going to try something, he lowered the bed so that I was flat on my back, then he said slide up until your head is over the end of the bed, He then held my head between his two hands and slowly turned my head to the left and said look into my eyes; I did, but I didn't fancy him, he held my head like that for five minutes then he did the same on the right side of my head saying look into my eyes, I still didn't fancy him. then he got me to stand up; close my eyes and hold my arms out after a few minutes he said that's OK. I will give you a script for motion sickness pills, then he went off duty and forgot. At 6am the nurse said you can go now I'll call a taxi; I said I'll just go to the toilet ,when I finished I was wobbling all over the place, so back to bed until another Chinese Dr came and gave me the motion sickness pill. I went out side in my shortie pajamas and Thongs on my feet and went home in a taxi.
My wife had the same thing three years ago, and a friend recently said she had it. I'm still not sure what it is but I'm sure as hell I don't ever want it again.
Cheers Des.
PS the head holding and slowly turning is what they do, so I will know next time.

Re: Vertigo
Des have been getting like that now over a number of weeks now. Saw the Doc and go back to see him on Tuesday with a daily record of Blood Pressures taken over the past week at the Chemists. I usually get a lot of cramps in the legs and he says this is a side effect of taking water tablets. Am still waiting for him to diagonise the dizziness, this happens only when walking, when driving seems ok. Will take your advice and go to bed dressed in case of call outs. Cheers JS

Re: Vertigo
I have had that as well and Cramps in the Leg at Night mostly ,this is caused by the Water in the Body (not enough) trying to flow to the Legs,i have solved most of it by Drinking a Full large Glass of Water before retiring, makes one get up though to you know what! Also take Mega Magnesium Tablets at least 600mg a day I take 1200mg a day helps heaps!!
But every time you do have to get up,remember to refill the Body with another Glass of Water!
Better than getting those Horrific Cramps I can tell you at times before I was at times nearly in Tears with the pain!
As for the Giddiness that too I have overcome, mine is just the fact that I am on Blood Pressure Tabs every day,and now and then when the Tabs work too well the Blood Pressure drops this causes giddiness when walking (one feels like a drunk) and when lying down you get that awful feeling like Des explains,it is horrible I know, the Room spins around like hell and one cannot move your head! I stop taking the Blood Pressure Tabs for a few days only though, after just one day off them I am absolutely fine!
So take a wee bit of advice here Lads@
Cheers hope this will help to explain! Your Doctor should have known straight off!
I too have Diabetes which increases the chances of the Leg Cramps due to water being lost!
Drink drink drink plenty of Water!!!
Vertigo can also be assisted by Stemetil Tablets!!

Doc, hope you don't mind me saying but think you should mention this to your doctor, you may just need your BP medication reduced in strength instead.

Re: Vertigo
Des , if you fell out of bed you wouldn't have vertigo, only about two feet.
I have been getting a few dizzy spell lately, I take a Lisinopril, a Spyronactil* and a Amlodipine, so I stopped taking all three, just the spyronactil* and one of the other two that seemed to ease the problem.
Then last week I got a letter from the Doctor I had to have a blood test for Kidney failure, so I did, on Friday test said Kidneys were "Satisfactory" what ever that means. Didnt say Good and didn't say Bad, just satisfactory,
He said the Lisinopril and Spyronactil * together are bad for me, I have only been on them for 32 years , now he gets a new idea.
So tomorrow Monday He is phoning me, to have a Telephone Consultation, that is a new thing, it saves people going to the Surgery and filling up the waiting room.
The Spyronactil* is a `water ` tablet, I had severe painful cramps in the legs in bed, so I started to take one every two days instead of one a day. and that has stopped.
So tomorrow I am having this review of my medication.,
Too much water in the body can lead to heart failure, etc. so you have to get id of excess fluid. But still drink plenty of water.

Re: Vertigo
Glass of water before going to bed will stop cramp.
Had a touch of dizzy spells the other week and went to see the GP.
He asked me if I had vertigo, I said no I only live just up the road.

Re: Vertigo
Hi Vernon.
Stemetil is what he gave me, I have been on Ternorman since I had a heart attack in 62, never had a problem with them although they do say that after a certain time you should change, I asked the Dr if maybe I should give them up but he said have you had any trouble with your heart since 62, I said no, then they must be working then. My blood pressure is perfect at all times, and my cholesterol is spot on. I do take a glass of water to bed but I only sip it when I have to get up at night, never have cramps.. I just went and got the car back off my son who has been running Betty around for her shopping, feel great now, thanks everyone .
Cheers Des
PS, I eat a lot of salt; on my dinner; and potato chips
