Re: Medical Then/Now
I am on statins after my mild stroke, brought on by smoking and stress and as Tony says its the fags or stress so I chose to still have the odd cigarette.
A further advantage of statins is that they have been shown to prevent/delay the possible onset of Dementia in old age so that's a plus as far as I'm concerned.

Guilty as charged of not taking any medication, do not require any according top my GP. But I do self medicate with small regular doses of Dr. Gordons and Tonic, the quinine in the tonic keeps Malaria away, so I am told.

But unlike Smarties they only com ein one colour!!!!

Re: Medical Then/Now
On our recent cruise to NZ we went to a Kiwi farm in Tauranga, this is where they grow Kiwi fruit, not the people, and I leaner quite a bit about the properties of them.
Studies done by a Swedish compant have found the following about them.
One Kiwi contains more vitamin C than an orange
Eaten regularly they will reduce Cholesterol
They contain more fibre than a serving of oat bran, something about the eye of a needle comes to mind
They will assist in reducing the effects of Iratable Bowel Syndrome
They also contain an amount of Omega 3
I now eat two a day and have noticed the increase in use of toilet paper but do feel a lot better.
