Re: Is it really this bad?
Hi John cheap for the plonkies but expensive on the NHS. That is why drunks should pay for their ttreatment. If they can pay to wreck their health then they can pay for the NHS to make them healthy again.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Is it really this bad?
I can only speak locally , but some of the corner shops here sell very cheap Vodka , imported , exceptionally cheap , and extremely dangerous , the Cigarettes are from Eastern Europe and have enough tar to resurface the M1 . High profits , trading standards do their best , but the NHS cleans the mess up . I have paid taxes for forty five years in work and still as many here do pay i retirement , these local wasters have never paid a single penny in at all . I don't have a serious problem , but feel that the money spent could bring a less selfish person a quicker result .

Re: Is it really this bad?
Hi Rob,
My son appeared on a TV program last year, and he was in a Booze shop, in Portsmouth, talking to the manager about the plonk. the price of Vodka and cider was unbelievably cheap and the manager said he did a hell of a lot of business with it. and most of his customers were kids for the Vodka and the old timers were on the cider.
all destined for his department and then the crematorium.
Cheers
Brian

Re: Is it really this bad?
The crematorium is so busy one booking every twenty minutes in weekdays and quite a few days waiting list that Co-op funerals have decided to finance and build a new one as they have enough business for it , it is under construction next door to the Spire Hospital , Hampshire council sanctioned a new cemetery locally too , so , that will be next to the local hospice . Don't you just love planners

Re: Is it really this bad?
The booze problem in this country is huge, a guy who i used to play golf with, is an ex police inspector, spent 4 months in hospital here on the Island last winter, just drying him out. I have started getting drunken nuisance phone calls from him, tell him to p*** off, next day does not remember, so now i have to get a call blocker. In the last 3 weeks the ambulance has been called to him 3 times, taken to hospital, then discharges himself. Last week a ambulance called in the helicopter an d he was airlifted to Southampton, two days later hes back home again. Two nurse attend him twice a day, this guy is costing us thousands. To put it bluntly, the sooner he crosses the finishing line the better KT

Re: Is it really this bad?
In our time many of us were profesional drinkers, a bottle of brandy a day on the South African coast was not unusual. But I do not recall any of the crew getting into trouble, most fell asleep when full as a boot, and figting was not a priority. But noe here in Melbourne Friday and Saturday night the emergency department of the hospitals clogged with drunks who have been in a fight. A police man I know told me, 'they fill up on booze before going to the night clubs then start poping pills of all sorts and that is where the problem lies, not in the alcohol alone'.
In our days Ice was something you put in a G&T not a drug, a bit of weed was about all we could get.

Re: Is it really this bad?
John they never learn over taking these substances sold in clubs.Three weeks ago a guy of 32 took some stuff in a Manchester night club and died, very respectable guy from a good family but that doesn't mean a thing.Story on the television and warnings from the police about buying substances especialy in this particular club, blow me the following week a young woman in her twenties nearly died and a number taken ill from substance bought in this club.It was said that the police and door staff had pumped up security it still got in.
Regards.
