I sailed on the Trewidden 21.11.69 joined in Antwerp it was the trip we went to Tahiti.New caledonia ,Vanuatu. and Australia.and we had the murder on board when a Somalia deck hand murder a scouse fireman with a knife we had to go to Marquesas ils where they took the somalia off the boat and we went on to Tahiti .

I served on the Trewidden in 1965 in the Catering Staff, it was the very first ship i joined at 16.
I joined it in Tyne Dock in South Shields on Tyneside ,
A great trip to Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth and Durban, very impressed for a first trip

hi dave i was a cat/boy on the boat then i was made up to eng ineer steward when the steward fell down the gang way and broken this leg it must have been the drink from number 5 hatch

I was on the Trewidden in 1960/61 went round the med through suez almost lost my leg in Aden--then Bombay,Madras,Calcutta,Chittagong then fREMANTLE THEN HOME.

Well Harry,I have actually been and lost both legs in quite a few ports
,but not Aden.
Sorry ! But about your leg .....Where did you eventually find it ?

attached to my thigh( i actually stepped into the after spring coils as it was payed out through the bitts --and was left with severe bruising and a scottish second officer who passed out at the sight of blood.

I recall in 1961/2 whilst sailing on the Trewidden,we got orders to sail under charter to B.I. and the bosun set me to work "painting" out the H on the funnel with black paint.

I recall when bound from port sudan to india 1961/2 we carried two race horses as deck cargo.The deck cadets had the job of "mucking out"' feeding them and walking them around the after decks as exercise.One of the horses was quite placid and the other one was inclined to give a sharp nip if you got too close. Another part of the cargo for india was for the world health organisation---a load of condoms--it didn't do the locals much good though --look how many there are now.
