I served on the Trewidden in 1965 in the Catering Staff, it was the very first ship i joined at 16.
I joined it in Tyne Dock in South Shields on Tyneside ,

A great trip to Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth and Durban, very impressed for a first trip

I recall in 1961/2 whilst sailing on the Trewidden,we got orders to sail under charter to B.I. and the bosun set me to work "painting" out the H on the funnel with black paint.

I recall when bound from port sudan to india 1961/2 we carried two race horses as deck cargo. The deck cadets had the job of "mucking out"' feeding them and walking them around the after decks as exercise. One of the horses was quite placid and the other one was inclined to give a sharp nip if you got too close. Another part of the cargo for india was for the world health organisation---a load of condoms--it didn't do the locals much good though --look how many there are now.

    Default Tree boats!!!!!

The most striking thing about them old Tree boats was the crews rec room remember 3 month trip TREVAYLOR, Dart board 2 darts, table tennis table one bat no balls, Pack of cards 40 in the deck, crews library wreck of the mary dear, 4 captain edges that was your lot. We were in port with the TREMEADOW cant remember were, so we swapped books they come off best ?? also swapped movies we had Spartacus, and the dirty dozen, we got the sound of bloody music, and a spagetti western the voices were dubbed about a 3 minute delay. A.C. Was her best attribute cardboard boxes out of every port hole. Iremember the chief engineer telling someone on the bridge with a full head of steam we actually made 7 knots happy days indeed Regards all terry.
