Re: Oops
Embarrassing , USS Stickleback 415 in Collision with USS Silverstein D 534 I believe the crew all survived.
here is a photo of her from 1945 stickleback-title-66530.jpg. She certainly looks a lot different in this photo must have had a major re design at some stage.

Re: Oops
Hi Mike
Thanks for that pic, I think the yanks reduced the number of warships in the Pacific for that same reason, more navigation training LoL.

1-The-damaged-HMS-Nottingham-being-sea-lifted-back-to-the-UK.jpg It is not just the US that has the odd hiccup. Was this the result of dropping someone ashore for a dinner party?

Re: Oops
Were you still working then Des ? Before the RN vessel went aground I had spent 8 months or so doing a bottom survey working out of Sydney for Optus it was estimated to take 12 months . It was commenced just off Bondi Beach and to to finish in Auckland , think it took 2 years finally as was long gone elsewhere when completed. However Norfolk Island was always where I made for in bad weather which was frequent Norfolk Island was ideal as could anchor anywhere around it depending on wind direction and have done so on frequent occasions . Where the RN went aground I have anchored many times in the same area and found the holding ground very good , so I must have been lucky , hope the warship didn’t find a spoil ground and blame me for it. Cheers JS

Re: Oops
Well John you were lucky that you didn't have that Costa beauty on the bridge with you when you where off Norfolk looking for safe anchorage, , who knows what would have happened.
