Daylight robbery.
This time of year some households will bedeck their houses with festive arrays of lights to celebrate Christmas. My own house displays a modest contribution to the season, unlike one or two I've seen with giant Santas swinging from chimneys and others with enough lighting to challenge the National Grid.
Yet there are some who would consider such displays as light pollution- preventing them to enjoy the beauty of the night sky.
Sailing across the great oceans of the world, all aboard here have experienced that phenomenon where the night sky and stars seem to be in touching distance with barely a glimmer of light aboard
to mar that view.
I shall switch mine off come Twelfth Night and await the thud of the envelope landing on the mat containing the seasonal electricity bill.

Hi John.
What I wouldn't give to be in the middle of the Pacific this Xmas looking up at all those stars, with some streaking across the sky in a light display no one on this world can copy.
Des
Have a nice one.

Re: Daylight robbery.
The universe as Read .....15 billion years ago our universe did not exist. Then came the Big Bang expanding from nothing to 1.25 billion -billion miles. There are billions of galaxies in the Universe.
Stars , it is impossible to estimate the numbers of stars in the universe.
Brightest stars from earth and used by most navigators when it was fashionable and the only way to navigate were
Sirius , Canopus, Arcturus , Rigel K, Vega, Capella, Rigel, Procyon, Betalguese, At least these were the ones I found easiest to pick out , there were others of course like Castor and Pollux , better known as cast iron bollix.
This is the basic of the basics , man has still infinite wisdom to acquire about the heavens and the other galaxies still to discover . Cheers good hunting . JS.

Re: Daylight robbery.
Christmas lights, mate come out to Oz and see them.
So many I think you could see them from space.
But out on deck at night under the stairs, nothing like it.
Calm and serene, just love it.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Daylight robbery.
I saw a funny photo yesterday, and just cannot find it again, but gave me a real chuckle. The photo was of a bungalow with lights just about everywhere, on the roof, on the trees, and *merry xmas to all* emblazoned across the front, and next door in lights had *ditto*, and nothing else, kt
