Re: World Cruise Anyone ??
Victoria you did well and no doubt made you a more global person than before.
It is often said travel broadens the mind.
The price back then may have been good but in about 63 I was told the fare on UCL from Cape Town to Southampton tourist class was 100 GBP.

Well that is amazing Keith T ,as it could well have been the trip i was on in 64 going back to Cape Town as a Passenger (DBS) its a strange story, but it happened.
Was sent back DBS but was in fact actually given a passenger Cabin, for some reasons , dont ask how it happened as i to this day do not know! I travelled just like any other passenger with accommodation , Meals in the normal Dining Saloon etc. It was like seeing it all from the other side.
Out on Deck with the rest and joining in on any activity i liked, i am sure there was some real mixup somewhere , but me well i just stayed Stum!
It was a great trip back on the old Athlone!
Cheers

Re: World Cruise Anyone ??
Well Victoria not sure when this was but you chose an exceptional ship.
Pride of the fleet and the Comadore ship of the company.
Had some wonderful time when I served on her.

A slight variation on that question Victoria , when some of us got home the first question we were asked after months away was, When you going back ? JS.

Ain't that the truth! probably didn't want to buy too much food in during rationing, or wondering how often they'd have to change the sheets, or wondering how many drunks you would bring home

How well I recall walking in the house and mum saying hello son good to see you when you going back.
Then my younger sister saying you are drunk!!

John, I would say that happened to most of us, not just family but friends and acquaintances also.
