Drydock=Hospital
My wife received the dreaded government letter, 12 weeks lockdown for both of us.
It had a helpline number to call if you could not get anyone to do your shopping, no slots available so I called it.
A young lady answered, I told her there was no way we could go out because if my wife caught covid 19 she would certainly end up in Drydock.
We went through all the details etc no problems, just about to hang up when she comes back and said, MR PAYNE WHY WOULD YOUR WIFE GO INTO DRYDOCK.
After I picked myself up from the floor from laughing so much, I said sorry I meant Hospital.
Happy days are here again.

Re: Drydock=Hospital
My one has got a bit larger as the years have gone by, Those tight slack things they wear that reveal there rear, Every time I see her in them I think of two black balls on display on the forestay, Put her rear in a pair of fishnet tights I cant help thinking of a bloody cargo net.

Re: Drydock=Hospital
weren't two black balls on the forestay some sort of danger signal?

Using the term " SICK BAY " likely would have been met with a quizzical look. Flash back to 1918. While tragic today, this is old business with a new twist...

Re: Drydock=Hospital
Should imagine anyone with 2 black balls not less than 2 feet in diameter would be in quarantine Terry. Beri Beri springs to mind.. Although that wasn’t supposed to be contagious. Cheers JS

Re: Drydock=Hospital
Always remember waiting to sail out of the Huskisson dock Liverpool on a T@J Harrison boat I think it was the Linguist, All we hade was one head rope fore and aft, Only awaiting for the skipper to finish up with the ships agent, The mate shouted me down onto the well deck I am ringing you a taxi cab go and get a quick scrub up and be ready, Taxi chief for what the skipper has just done the discharge books Paramaribo Suriname South America is on our port of call list you need to go to the hospital of tropical medicine one of your inoculations needs topping up, There and back in 30 mins as soon as I boarded the gangway was up and we let go. There was a lot more thought went into a voyage than we realised Terry.

John I remember the very scenario two black balls displayed, The Reason.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes. It's widespread in many parts of the world.
Mosquitoes in the UK do not spread the dengue virus. It is caught by people visiting or living in Asia, the Americas or the Caribbean.
The infection is usually mild and passes after about 1 week without causing any lasting problems. But in rare cases it can be very serious and potentially life threatening.
There's no specific treatment or widely available vaccine for dengue, so it's important to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes when visiting an area where the infection is found.
