    Default School holiday rip offs

I love living on the Island, and readily accept that it has its transport difficulties, but am quite happy to pay a premium to live away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Many people living on Scottish Islands feel the same way, BUT, when it is exploited by ferry companies that is wrong, indeed there is a online potion at this moment in protest. An example this very week, being a bank holiday week, my son wanted to visit us, the Wightlink aka Shitelink ferry company fare from Lyminton to Yarmouth a 35 minute journey was £220 ONE WAY !!!,for a small car and two passengers, of course a little cheaper going back , only £90 !!!, no wonder there is much talk of a bridge, but i suspect that if that ever came about, and once the ferries were disbanded, the cost of crossing that would be humungous as well, held to ransom comes to mind, kt

Fail to see how they care to charge such outrageous prices Keith. Rather than a bridge would not a tunnel be a better, cheaper, quicker option? Most underwater tunnels are built by dredging of the seabedand then sinking precast tunnel sections into the dredged out channel. Upon completion it's back filled and does not affect the available water depth, unlike a bridge that would affect the air draft in any shipping Chanel. The 2 nd Tyne tunnel was built this way and caused minim disruption to shipping with the. Spoil being used to fill in the Albert Edward dock in Shields, allowing the Port of Tyne to extend its car export storage. Area along with biomass import storage and warehousing.

As you probably know John , only two companies operate a car service, and over the years we have had government inquiries into a cartel, always found in their favour. We have had attempts by other companies to operate a ship, and they will conspire together to put them out of business. The main problem is getting another landing place in either Portsmouth, or Southampton. Don't suppose we will ever see a bridge or a tunnel in my time. In fairies, as residents, we can getter a better deal for ourselves, but its when family want to visit, kt
