Big brother will watch you
I have often thought maybe we should haver a section dedicated to sheer lunacy, the news from the media, politicians speech etc.
Today we had on our radio a spokesman for the abolition of tobacco.
Sales are falling but the sales of 'chop, chop' a black market tobacco are rising.
Smoking as we know is not good for the health but many still indulge.
Here in Oz, just like UK and many other countries smoking is banned in bars, restaurants, clubs and many other places.
There is now a push to have it banned in out door drinking areas.
It is also banned in the work place, but now hear this.
Many people now work from home, dedicating one room as a work place, many trades men such as my brother use part of the garage or a shed to store tools and equipment required for their trade.
For this they are allowed to claim a tax rebate for the use of such along with some power charges.
The spokesman has now declared that as these places are deemed to be work places smoking will not be allowed there????
So watch out, big brother will no doubt soon be installing CCTV cameras in such work places.
How do these people come up with such lunacy, do they suffer from nightmares which they convert to concepts, or are they just stupid?
Worse still they do breed.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Big brother will watch you
the company I worked for pre retirement had to build a smoking shelter , must not have more than 1 closed side , other 3 had to be 50% open , had to be capable of holding a percentage of the workforce , it would have been cheaper to give smokers an umbrella each

Re: Big brother will watch you
I believe that some local councils in the UK are banning smoking in council houses.

When smoking in Ireland was banned in Pubs there was concern it would effect trade.
Easy fixed, the pubs all built shelter so the customers could still have a smoke.
There is one club in Moama, NSW, that built a special section of the gaming room so patrons could continue to smoke.
It was better than the main gaming room.

Re: Big brother will watch you
My local Hospital has No Smoking at all even in the grounds around .
Two weeks ago I saw a woman sat outside of the Main Entrance door, Smoking and coughing, she had an Oxygen tank on her wheel chairs and Oxygen tubes up her nose.
Outside the Main Gate down the road from the Entrance a group of Nursing Staff, all smoking.
I despair at the Stupidity of some people.

I TOTALLY AGREE! It is the same everywhere. I am now suffering from damaged lungs caused by childhood illnesses, it drives me nuts when I have to walk through a smoke barrier just to get into places; I try to hold my breath long enough to pass, as any smoke starts another episode of coughing and choking as my lungs rebel.
Seeing young people especially, deliberately destroying their lungs boils my p-ss.

as an ex smoker who gave up when I found out they went up to £2 a pack of 20 , now at £11 a pack a 20+ a day that would cost £4000 a year , I could buy a Dacia car for that

Re: Big brother will watch you
Not sure the price here, but expensive comes to mind.
We now have laws banning smoking from door ways set at three meters.
So outside the hospital door at 3.5 meters the smokers complete with all manner of equipment needed to keep them alive all light up big time.

Re: Big brother will watch you
Smoking is a killer, Years ago when we were young we were encouraged to smoke, all the celebs and movie stars smoked, with the advertising,
eg, "FOR YOUR THROATS SAKE, SMOKE CRAVEN A. "
Get a sore throat and go and buy a pack of Craven A cigs, how daft was that?/
I stopped smoking after four packs a day of ciggies, instantly with no craving, on 4 August 1989, 29 years ago, My son who is a Doctor took me to the dissecting room at the hospital and showed me two sets of lungs preserved in a clear liquid. one was clean and fluffy, of a child, next a tar ball of a heavy smoker,
I had a new pack of ciggies in my pocket I crushed them and threw them in a bin,
Now got a pair of powerful lungs, I know if I had not stopped I would be dead by now.
The money I saved pays for my cruises.
