    Default fires on the moors

Question for Capt Kong or anyone living near saddleworth moor, are the fires still burning or are they out....seems it is no longer news worthy and of no value news wise to the media... some how I doubt they just burnt out so quickly, like blowing out a candle. any updates please lads...
    regards, stan

I now see that Sweden is engulfed with wild fires, very dry with some hot weather has brought this about.

The surface fires on the moors surrounding Bolton are out, but the fires under ground in the peat are still there and occasionally burst out,
I looked on Tuesday as I was passing, no one is allowed up there yet, Bolton , or as it used to be known, BOWLTOWN , in a bowl in the moors and so we are surrounded by the moors, A few weeks ago were all green but now just Black where the fires were.
The strong smell of burning has gone, I can now open my windows again.. the chest, sinus and eyes are now better now the smoke has gone.
They need a couple of weeks of heavy rain to soak the peat to make sure they are not burning again.
The Firemen are still up there with hoses damping the bad bits.
The wildlife has been devastated, a lot of sheep were burn and died or had to be put down due the there injuries when their wool set on fire. etc.
just because a Nutter from Wigan came all the way to set fire to it. He was charged and then let loose into the community again.

    Cheers

We had a similar fire here in Oz with an underground mine.
It burned for months and could not be extinguished by normal means.
We have been told that even though there is now no sign of the fires they could still be burning and could do so for a number of years yet.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
