    Default Law and order

A row is taking place between the governments of Australia and New Zealand.

Australia has deported back to new Zealand a number of persons convicted of criminal activities.

A New Zealand minister says this is not right and they should not be deported!

But surely if guilty of crime why should they be allowed to stay?
Any government worthy of it's salt should attempt to keep a crime free society and deal with criminals in a manner it sees as fitting.
Maybe if others followed suit there may be a chance for a safer community.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

WISH WE COULD DO THAT HERE, that would be a solution to the overcrowding problem in jails

Regrettably, you relate only part of the story John though what you do say is correct. Some, certainly not all, of the deportees left NZ as young kids or infants so have no knowledge, rellies or contacts in NZ. When tossed off the plane at Auckland they are immediately no-hopers without family, friends or whoever. To deport under these circumstances is unreasonable methinks.
As for the comment by Tony, he will recall that's exactly how Aus gained its first Brit residents though few, if any, were sent back.

Sounds real good in theory but like anything like that it is full of crap. We had a prominant politician that was deputy PM and he commited a crime as a NZ subject but no move to deport that bugger was there. Yep when it comes to deportation one can be assured it will depend on who or what they are before it happens.
That's the way the mop flops.

I can see the point with no one in NZ that is related.
But why should we keep them here as destitute persons costing us money?

But that is a different point, if you do the crime you should do the time.
A number from other countries have also been deported, though as Les tells it there is some discrimination when it comes to matters such as this.

Seems that a member of the Rebels MCC in WA was deported after eight months in prison with no charges laid against him just solely because he was a member of a MCC. Now tell me that is fair. Reason for his deportation is that he is undesirable but commited no offence. As a rider (pun intended) the Rebels is not classified as illigal in WA so figure that one out.

If you know the right people it is possible to deport any undesirable who is not a citizen of Oz.
