Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes indeed Les must be very careful of giving any info out no matter who they profess to be,OK that once was good for you but as the Header says Beware!!
I got caught a while back as most will know and got done for $4000 my stupid fault should have sussed them out but cannot cry over spilt Milk just make sure the Bottle is sealed next time LOL
Kike you though I still get a few calls a Week from Numbers I have taken a note of,Reported them as well on the Net,not that I think it will do any good, also reported to Telstra and again Registered for the Do not call, but I think its all really a waste of good time.
So when any of the Numbers I have listed call ,I can see on the Phone Dial I just let it ring out now ! Her indoors has been trained to do same LOL
She will kill me !

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few years ago some idiot rang a female telling her there was a problem with her phone line.
He told her to get a pair of scicorrs and cut the land line cable on her hand set as the phone may explode if you do not.
Like an idiot she did, but then called the local radio station from a call box to ask for help.
The radio station suggested she get in touch with Telecom to fix the problem, then she could call the radio station from home not a call box.

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated. We have had a number of calls in the past few weeks from what appears to be located numbers, it's the usual ****, claiming that there is a problem.
The callblocking system blocks miss of them. I have re-dialled the numbers, get the message number not recognised.
I don't know the caller's can use what appears to be either a local or UK telephone code number.

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am no expert , but as i understand it, its not wise to redial the number because they can take over your line in some way ??, and yes, my wife had a scam call with a London number, telling her she had to attend court because a payment she made on Credit card was bounced, obviously they wanted her to square the perceived debt by giving them her Debit card details, the scammer was told in matzot English *pizz off*, kt

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the worst scams goes on in some Asian countries.
A guy who had global roaming on his phone had it stolen.
He contacted his provider who told him they would close down his number. All of this within 30 minutes of the phone being stolen.
He arrived home to a phone account of about $10,000
He refused to pay saying he had been told the number was cancelled.
But those who stole it have a system where the Sim card is placed in another phone linked to a system where as many as 1,000 can use it for about an hour before it closes down.
After a protracted law case he won and did not have to pay the $10,000.
So just be very careful how you look after your phone.

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beware of another scam
People have the bad habit of just picking up the phone and use the dial. They never check for dial tone
The scam here is simple.
They call you and give the patter then ask you to check with your bank .You hang up then pick up the handset and dial. The trouble is they are still holding your call and you think your on a new call. They can even give you dialling tone from their second line. When the hear you dialling they pass the call onto their mate beside them . Good they have answered quick . A new voice etc .
The best way to deal with this is (Hang up and don't touch hand set for 3 to 4 mins. This will bring in 1st party release and drop them off.)

Re: Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
G'Day,
Easiest is to tell the caller that you run a Linux operating system and hence you don't have any issues??!!
Cheers
