Earthquake
Hello fellow Members that live in Wales and parts of the UK that Experienced the Earthquake Today!
I just saw a short snippet about it ,so don't have much as yet to go on!
All I heard was that it was about a 4.3 on the scale and hit in Swansea Wales ,but also felt as far as 300km away!
I hope that all our Welsh Friends are AOK and that there were no casualties!
Let us know how things are please!
Thank You and stay safe all over there!

By the way some people that felt it in Liverpool said it was Maggie Thatchers fault, poor old Maggie always gets the blame.

Re: Earthquake
For some strange reason I ended up getting SC4 on French TV with English sub titles today. Scientists were discussing the recent earthquake in Wales.
Scientists have confirmed that the epicentre of the quake was in fact Twickenham last Saturday. Todays tremor was the aftershock following the downward pressure Gareth Anscombe had applied when he grounded the ball.

Re: Earthquake
A chap in my home town was boasting today about his new girlfriend:
Apparently, she told him that she had felt the earth move yesterday.
No one had the heart to tell him.

Re: Earthquake
In reality, apparently:
An expert from the British Geological Survey has detailed the cause of the earthquake which hit the UK this afternoon - and revealed how aftershocks could be felt for "the next few weeks".
It is now confirmed the earthquake hit at 2.31pm today, with the epicentre around 20km NNE of Swansea in Cwmllynfell, South Wales.
Tremors from the quake could be felt across Merseyside, as hundreds of Scousers reported feeling shaking walls and floors.
Speaking to the ECHO, Dr Richard Luckett, seismologist at the British Geological Survey, said: "It was caused by what causes many earthquakes and that is a movement in the fault.

Gee Jim, years ago they would have said it was barrels going down into the pub cellar.

Re: Earthquake
The epicentre of the quake was recorded about 12 miles north-east of Swansea, with the furthest reports coming from Devon and Birmingham. The shift apparently happened five miles under the earth. However, while the BGS confirmed it was the biggest in 10 years, and called it ‘reasonable’, there haven’t been any reports of serious damage or injury so far.
The magnitude of this earthquake – as mentioned – was 4.4. The highest magnitude of an earthquake since records began was between 9.4 and 9.6 in Chile in 1960. The 2011 Japanese earthquake which killed over 15,000 and left over 6,000 people injured had a magnitude of 9.1.
This recent British quake obviously pales in comparison to that. The last earthquake to top it in terms of magnitude was in the town of Market Rasen. Its score was 5.2, and one man was admitted to hospital after breaking his hip when a chimney came loose. Earthquakes tend to be worse on the edges of tectonic plates, where two plates meet.
We’re firmly in the Eurasian plate, so tend not to experience bad quakes. However, even in the UK, there have been some more serious ones. In 1931 in the North Sea off the east coast of England, the largest earthquake in Britain was recorded with a magnitude of 6.1. Despite being 60 miles away from the shore, it did manage to damage some buildings.
