Re: Getting hot again
The heat continues here with another burst of hot really hot' 39 centigrade plus, forecast for Friday to Monday next.
But last night was not so hot but very steamy so I slept out in the El Fresco again.
It was in the early hours, around two, when something woke me.
I sat up to see what may be about and there about two foot from my face I could see a pair of eyes.
What the **** I thought reaching for my torch.
There he was a Ring Tail staring at me.
He looked for a few seconds more before walking away and off up a tree just outside the area.
He lives next door in an old wood shed and has been there for a number of years now and has no fear of humans.
Maybe will consider putting a few apples outside the area for the next week or so, keep him busy for a while, while the heat continues, do not want to be woken up again so early.

A possum Lew

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_ringtail_possum
as you can see Lew they are Tree lovers at most times but do tend to wander around at Night,in the Larger Trees we have around us uts common to get them,so we have to put Solar Lights in the Tree to keep them away as they don't like the Light!
Cheers

Re: Getting hot again
#13... If that had been me John the first thing I would have reached for was not a torch but my teeth. Would want to be on equal terms if it came to biting. Where I live the most dangerous wildlife is the snakes. Possums are considered harmless and there is a law against killing. Should imagine is the same in all states, also cannot kill snakes without due cause. Think it is open season on kangaroos but may be wrong. Cheers JS

Re: Getting hot again
Forgot to mention Lew that those Possums are real Tightrope walkers mate,it is lovely to watch them at Nights here when they scoot along the Power Lines, how they keep their balance ! But its that scooting on the Wires that gets them onto the Roof ,and naught you can do about it!
Would never ever think of trying to Kill one they are lovely!
Snakes a few around, but no killing as said, unless it is really necessary.
Cheers

Re: Getting hot again
Here in Oz Lewis ALL wild life, including politicians, are protected, you may only kill if your life is in danger from them such as a snake bite.
We have the largest number of poisonous creatures here from spiders to snakes, stingers to Blue Ring Octopus.
But despite all of that the death from such is few.
