Hi shipmates, as one of the few, on our wonderful forum. who has worked on zero hours ,{ social work} I can say it was good for me? Why I had the choice what hours to work, I had other jobs, and a business , when things were slow it was a great fall back, I never claimed a penny off the dole, the last time I signed on was when I was at sea, told too by the N.U.S. down bute street {long gone} I have the rule book and rates of pay at sea from there, I have been lucky some have no choice but to work zero hours or no food in the house today it is low pay for long hours sometimes 24x7 for some. slavery ....

#32 Utter nonsense, who did away with the basic rate of 10p, why of course the great chancellor Gordon Brown.
Which party has had taxes as high as 90% no guessing and no prizes awarded for the correct answer. Of course it was Labour.

My State Pension and MN Pension is Taxed, so why are Benefits Not Taxed.? People in my avenue get over £20,000 a year on Benefit and have NEVER Worked.
    a Simple question.

    .
that £20,000 with NI and tax is equivalent to a job at £25,000 - all of a sudden the jobs are harder to find , that is how universal credit , works by making sure you are better off working encouraging people back to work

Similar system here in Oz, the gov is paying employers to take on young or older workers rather than paying them the dole.

As for taxes, all monies go into consolidated revenue, who gets any amount depends on where the votes will come from.

There is now a push here for housewifes to be paid some form of income for not working. The claim being that they do up to 15 hours per week unpaid duties at home??????????????????

It sounds rather than a payment to all women, that an on paper a figure of hours that some working ladies may accept to stay at home, both creating jobs and hiding true unemployment figures.

It would be a pretty pointless and expensive exercise to increase benefits just to take tax off.

I do not need to be told which posts to read, you asked, had an answer, if you did not like it move on.

The only way to tax benefits would on paper be to increase the benefit, tax it and as said be pointless.

I will have what you are drinking.
seems to be better than my Rum,
In Benefits, any thing over the Tax Allowance should be taxable as income tax, as in a pension, simple.
Many people who are working earn less than people on Benefits and they are taxed over the allowance. so they do not increase a wage to make them pay more tax or increase a pension to take tax so why increase the Benefits to take out tax, ????? the people on Benefits get more than I do on my State Pension and MN Pension, I pay INCOME TAX so what is the problem,?????.
    Cheers
    Brian

    minimum wage = £ 7.50 / hr x 38 hours x 52weeks = £ 14,820 p.a. less N.I. £798.72 less £664 income tax gives a net income of £ 13,357.28 £256.87 per week
t net the £20,000 in Brian's example you would need £25000 less £2020 Ni and £2700 in tax equivalent to £12.56 an hour

there s little incentive for him to work unless due to housing benefit , child tax credit, the modern Uiversal Credit he can get another £10,,000 a year
