Since WW2 the progress is matter scientific has been enormous.
The advent of the computer has enlarged this often beyond human comprehension.
But where will it end?

The production of driverless cars, computers that can think for you, watches now that will do much of the work of a computer.
And the other day an advert for a new 'google' component that will do all manner of tasks that normally you would do.

Is man getting too smart for his own good?

Where will it end, are we producing components now that will make the human brain defunct?

The younger generation are now totally reliant on their smart phone or tablet to do even the smallest of tasks.
they no longer need to use their brain as a memory bank, smart phone will give them the answer.

But what happens when the system fails, when the computer is not there to give the answer, how will they cope then?

No doubt many of you saw the movie 2001 a Space Oddesy and what happened there when the computer went rouge, how long before science fiction becomes reality?

Looking at the 20rh century alone John a mere 100 years. We had the birth of the dreadnought, air travel, submarine ,transport, the armoured tank, the birth of the atomic bomb, space travel, e-mail correspondence, satellite navigation, all leaning towards the elements of warfare. There are many others. Also in the world outside of war and more important to humanity the less advances and progress to the cure for disease. We won't be around to see the full applications of this century but can only hope there is less advancement in weaponry and more leanings for the good of humanity. Cheers JWS

The early part of the 20th century was run of the mill in terms of technology. After the second world war there was a technological explosion.
IBM in the late 50's developed the idea of an electronic computer, the Chairman of the. Company asked what good it would do? Enjoy gave permission and IBM grew to be the electronic giant.

Problem is technology moves that fast these days it is impossible to keep up. Todays latest gadget is old hat tomorrow.
Toss this out here, I'm in my late 60's I have found that most of my correspondance these days is by email.
I am now back in the class room trying to learn french, I have to take down notes etc, my hand writing is nearly unreadable and also I am so slow at taking notes as well. My son who is in his early 30's used to win awards at school for his hand writing skills, if you saw his writing today it is as if a spider had walked across the page.
The keyboard and word processors are to blame.
As for smart phones!!!! I had a rant at my lad about my current phone not being so bloody smart, Dad the phone is smart the operator well!!!! Thankfully I have now found out how to turn off the predictive text app..

The next must have gadget is fridge that takes selfies. The fridge has cameras installed in the inside and takes photos of the contents of the fridge.
The idea behind it is that by taking photos you will know which items that you need to purchase.

Vic I heard of a fridge that said when you opened the door " get out you fat pig", supposedly for those who couldn't stop eating, I could have used at one time, but given up now. Cheers JS

Could dowith a fridge like that today, when my son & family come to stay my lad stillgets the midnight munches lol and the Grand daughter is a mini version of Pacman(old vdeo game)
