Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
So maybe if we had played the European game we would not perhaps have gone down the road of looking down the barrel of a powerful trading , dictorial block called the EU and hence what will be a very expensive time for all until we find our feet again.

Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
The Italian ship builder Fincanteri does build a good ship and the greater majority of many sailing today came from that yard.
It appears that the 'EU Rules' are there for some and not others, obviously UK is one of the others.

Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. (Italian pronunciation:*[finkanˈtjɛːri]) is an Italian shipbuilding company based in Trieste, Italy. It was formed in 1959 and is owned by the Italian state through Fintecna. Already the largest shipbuilder in Europe, after the acquisition of Vard in 2013 the Fincantieri group doubled in size to become the fourth largest in the world.[1] The company builds both commercial and military vessels.
How is this bending EU rules owned by the state, so gets subsidised by the italian government amI wrong here ??

Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
and with the state of the Italian finances, ie owing thousands and millions of Euros, probably doing very well on our 14 billion contribution. the system is not sustainable, even less so when we pull the plug on the money, kt

Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
And as the UK is the worlds highest debtor nation after the USA that £14 billion will go a long way in chipping away at that debt which I doubt very much that will happen.

Re: Shipbuildin in the UK
But the whole point is Lewis, that debt is OUR debt, not one run up by some other sloppy nation with their hands out, but you have a lot more of that coming, when some of the other Balkan states join the EU, again a hands out nation!!!. And just wait until you have a federal army run by the krauts, how much will that cost. Hopefully by then we will be out, kt

I reckon the EU as it is now is going to self destruct within two years, but regardless the Germans will still call the tune.

No Lewis for once we agree. There is nothing wrong in the state supporting local economy, but correct me if I am wrong under the EU rules I was of the understanding that all such contracts had to go to tender. Or is it a case of one rule for us and another for the rest?
