Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
When I signed in for MN site membership I believed that the site was private to members so happily provided details as requested for membership. I've been pleased I joined some Posts and have learned a lot over the short period since joining. Today: calamity.
I find the information I gave, in it's entirety, is now on the www for all in this world and probably others, to read. Worse, every Post,( though I haven't checked) I have submitted to MN is on Google www for the said worldly readers to view - each under a separate heading. More: the www sites under my name give direct access to the MN site without any signing-in and that includes the Crew List for those joining.
I have also searched 4 other members who have regular posts without finding the same issue.
Will someone please tell me what I am doing wrongly. Could it be that I use Google Chrome only, or that I often do not log-out of the MN site (though why would a message added to an existing post end up on the www also) or that I use Windows 10, or is it that I'm just stupid, or?????
Check your own name to see what you have on the www - if you know you have several pages, as I do, key Merchant after your name to shorten the search. Check my name also if you wish - Ken Trehearne - I'd be interested to read of what you find relative to the MN site to learn if we see differently.
Cheers
KenT

Hi Ken, unfortunately you are correct in what you've found I have done the same thing and got full access to the site
with no password needed I opened my profile so as you say anyone can read your post etc, I also tried using a false
name taken at random "Bill Smith" as it turns out there is a Bill Smith on the site so it all opened up again, thank you
for making us aware of it, like you I find it unsettling as I thought we were all talking in private, maybe this is one of
the things that leaves the site vulnerable to hacking, I have sent a message to Admin as they may not be aware of this
problem. Cheers JFC

Re: Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
I am not amused! I just opened a new window and typed in WWW Rodney Mills British Merchant Navy Old Friends and saw my life history plus my discharge book photo and a reconstructed photo of me today as a trainee. This photo I once used as my avatar. It has information on what appears to be a copy of a page out of my discharge book which includes dates of when I passed my ships cooks ticket plus courses and dates when I attended UCL training school, these were never part of my discharge book, that is for ships only. I have never posted the exact dates of this information as I can't remember exactly, previously I did post the year I took my ships cooks certification but not dates.
I expect this access to non members corrected. I did not post articles of my history for public consumption. I want to know when this is going to be corrected, if it can't be in a reasonable time I'm out of here too.
Rodney Mills and pissed off.

Re: Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
Do you mean this Rodney: Rodney Mills
If so, it has nothing to do with Merchant Navy Old Friends site.

Re: Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
For the hell of it I typed in Brian Probetts and up came his site including Brians bio, I scrolled down to the bottom and it showed who was on site or had been on site, so I clicked on to Braid, and up came Braids personal site including his bio. This info is all opened to anybody. I'm hoping that the admin were not aware of this and this info should not be available to anyone else including me.

Re: Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
Hugh. Yes I mean that one (as Well). I assume you got to that by typing how I instructed on my first post. In other words you connected to that by typing in my name and B.M.N.O.F., therefore, it is connected to this site. In looking at it looks like it has come off the UCL site via B.M.N.O.F. which I posted some, and I repeat some of that info. It appears that information has been stuck and pasted from other articles, that said, if you go to the next Rodney Mills site it connects you into this site, you can find my bio there and scroll down look for your name on the list of users, click on, and get on to your personal site. Try typing www your name British Merchant Navy Old Friends Plus, let me know what happens. Rodney

Re: Amazed, disappointed and almost out of here
Sorry Rodney, I can't agree - look at Chris Allman's post #3. Actually log out of the site and you will not see any private details as you will be required to log back in again. Try it
