Post.15.
Thomas
Many thanks for your well informed description of that particular Area.
Do know the Skerries was mentioned during the evening, Though that's where the Breakdown may have occurred . As we'drifted 32 miles The light we were getting close to.,May have been a Flash One, if that's of any help? As it came round, it would light up, the vessel.
Cheers!

hi evan if you say the breakdown was off the skerries and your drift was thirty two miles, and your saying you where sighting a light and it was possibly a one flash.and as it came round it would light up the boat.
well the only light near you off shore thirty two miles from the skerries would be the north west constable cardinal mark, with one quick long white flash.
now that would not light the ship up, I believe the loom of the lighthouse off the great orme was where the light was coming from.
that falls into line with the distance you say the boat drifted, and the lifeboat from new brighton came out to give you a hand, you also you said that the tug put a line on board and towed you to Liverpool well Liverpool rock channel ( now closed to shipping ) which was still being used daily when you where towed in is less than forty miles away from there, and there is deep water right up to the cliff face of the orme so although hairy there is enough water for them to pull your boat away
i hope this gives you some extra imformation to go over.
but if you give me the date and time of the breakdown just for the sake of it i will work out the set and drift and give you a more accurate estimated position.

Re: Day trips to Llandudno.
Just dug the Book out, Thomas .
Signed on ,9. i. 51. Pay-off ,Liverpool 14 th.
Allowing ,say, from leaving Berth early evening. To locking -out . Probably in the Bristol Channel, about 7.p.m. Bound for Fleetwood
Some 24 hrs, or so later, was when the C.Stwd. alerted us . I don't know why the Skerries ,(stayed
with me, ) ?
Drifting .thirty -two miles,in eight hrs. was from the S. Wales Echo's report. A report of the incident itself was in the Liverpool ,evening 's paper of that time. Then in the next morning of the Nationals.
As you describe Thomas .The Great Orme , seems the most likely light.
It was a nice quiet Tow to the Locks.
Hope my approximate ,time frame ,will be of some help.
Whatever!
Only know that I'm more than satisfied ,with the Knowledge, you've already imparted.
Best Wishes.

Re: Day trips to Llandudno.
Did'nt we have a lovely day the day we went to Bangor,
A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way, and all for under a pound you know,
And on the way back I cuddled with Jack
And we opened a bottle of cider,
Nine months later I had twins.

Happy daze John in Oz.

hi evan
I have tried to check some of your details, for the date and time of tides etc, and I could not find anything, so yesterday I was down at my boat, and for the first time I checked the charts out for that part of the coast, as everthing I wrote to you was from memory.
so all can do is show that from skerries that you drifted thirty two miles and as I cannot confirm if it was springs or neaps I cannot give the tidal speed or the wind speed for a more accurate position but as the tide floods into the Liverpool bay you would be drifting between NE and N,N,E but I was right about the west cardinal mark and the loom of the great orme, because the distance of thirty two miles you drifted puts you off the orme and the west cardinal and then new brighton lifeboat would be less than thirty miles away so that is the best I can do.
hope this gives you a better idea of where you where most likely to be
