Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
It was a 7.5 on the Richter Scale, has caused some damage in the South Island but so far no injuries except my ribs -- a dig in the ribs about 2 am and told to stop snoring, from her indoors !! It rattled the louvre blinds in our bedroom ! Will keep you informed, cheers Peter in NZ.

Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
I can remember experiencing one in the fifties about 12 hours outside of Auckland. Almost a flat calm sea, when suddenly the whole ship started to vibrate and shake for about 20 seconds. Heard later it was an earth quake, but no Tsunami as such. Weird feeling at the time. JS

The Tsunami warning has been lifted but there is a lot of damage, this is the most damaging for a long time. The most amazing picture on the TV news tonight was a shot of a pillar of farmland about 10m high and maybe 2m in diameter with a couple of milking cows on top -- the surrounding ground has just subsided and two puzzled cows wondering how they are to get to the milking shed !! Regards Peter in NZ.

The Beeb and Sky are showing that on the news over here. Thankfully only 2 died but the pictures we have here show large amounts of damage to roads etc. and also large areas of cliff's etc just disappearing into the sea.
Just hope that there are no further casualties when the emergency services reach the outlying districts.

Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
Saddens me to see the damage caused, I have travelled that area quite a bit. It's my favourite holiday destination, and a beautiful country, and as I have said before, the only country apart fro UK where I would consider moving to, (too bloody old now ). Lucky that only two deaths reported at the moment, kt
