Can't see anything why I should be careful about posting this thread Louis.
The outrageous happenings of Orgreave took place 32 years ago, yet they made headlines on BBC TV News yesterday. This proves that what took place at Orgreave isn't going to go away as hatred still lingers. There's always two sides to a story.
Seeing is believing and the evidence of what took place at Orgreave is in this thread for everyone to see.

Why did Scargill target the steel works at Orgreave?
He organised it to stop Coke from feeding the furnaces to keep the steel plant open. or other workers from another industry would have lost jobs.
That had nothing to do with Scargill. He is the Bad Guy in all of this. It was him who had the pits closed losing thousands of miners jobs.
The Miners had no need to strike. they had the Best wages and best working conditions of any Industry in the UK. They were Forced to come out on strike due to threats from Scargill`s hired Thugs, just for His Political ends. There were threats of violence against the Miners, their wives, their children and their cars and homes were smashed until they came out, and at the end there were no mines to go back to, all closed due to Scargill again. He had Refused to let the Maintenance Men go down to keep the mines open, the Roofs came down crushing Millions of pound of equipment and then flooded so it was impossible to reopen. Now all out of a job.
What a wonderful working class hero is Scargill, who is still living in a mansion owned by the Miners from their contributions to the NUM. a Chauffeured car and a Flat in London.
I am from a mining family who were threatened and my brothers car was smashed up. I also did 6 months down the pit, before going to sea in 1952.
BUT Some people believe in Scargill,
    as Shakespear famously once said,
    "What Fools these Mortals Be".

    FOURO.
Then its about time hatred stopped lingering and everyone got on with their lives, no miners were killed, miners were injured, policemen were injured, inevitable when two groups of physically fit men are opposing each other, are we going to become like the Balkans and other primitive tribes and live with hatred for two hundred years and no one really knows why. Stop this nonsense, grow up and get on with what life you have left, this is not a rehearsal for a future life, has anyone met anyone who has come back!?

From what I have seen it is about how it was handled, normally a strike ends up around the table not sending in the police to knock seven kinds out of the people on strike as this is what happened and it is the rank and file policemen who want to expose what actually happened during that strike..I think it has come to the forefront because of the Yorkshire police cover up of Hillsborough, the lies that were told about the Liverpool supporters and the police cover up,the police told lies over Hillsborough and they told lies over the miners strike so lets forget about the strike and concentrate on the lies told by the police and the instructions given to the bobby facing the miners as to how to deal with them.Police Constables, as in Hillsborough were ordered to sign statements not written by them,is that the country we want to live in,expose these bent coppers for what they are.By the way a number of miners were arrested but not one was charged.

Jim, I agree with what you say, Police don't appear to be innocent. If there is to be an investigation, it should also focus on the intimidation meted out by Scragill's mob.
There was an article in the paper a few weeks ago about a miner who committed suicide. He opted to work during the strike to feed his family, a mob visited him, threatened if he didn't join the strike his wife a kids would be dealt with.
He couldn't stand the strain, killed himself.
There are numerous reports of threats to working miners and their families, this should also be investigated.
    regards
    Vic

Vic All I am saying is that the police are not above the law and no matter what, they should behave in a civilised manner.A policeman on TV said they were told to inflict as much harm on the striking miners as possible and they would not be charged, that ca't be right surely.

Jim, I agree with all you say, but any enquiry should not be one sided. No one should be above the law, no matter who.
