HMS Ambush in Collision.
One never knows where they are until, they either run aground or have a collision. Not so long ago the Astute ran agound off the Scottish coast, now the Ambush has been involved in a collision just off Gibralter. One can only say, so much for our nuclear subs. Another few million pounds will have to be spent on repairs due to negligence.
FOURO.

Re: HMS Ambush in Collision.
Saw a photo on the news this morning, only a fleeting glance, but it looks like the 'Ambush' had a small ship stuck in her port side, which under normal circumstances would make the 'Ambush' innocent, as the other vessel 'presumably' had the sub to starboard which would make her the vessel to give way and go around the subs stern, so maybe not enough rudder applied in sufficient time. However the give way vessel may not have been in a position to give way without entering another dangerous situation in this very busy area, guess we'll have to wait and see what the real situation was before apportioning blame. I've only been in a situation twice where whilst on watch I've had to take a round turn out of a vessel to avoid crossing traffic which seemed intent on sticking to their chosen course regardless of rules, (Cross Channel Ferries come to mind), once near Gib and once in the Sea of Japan. There may have been numerous reasons for this 'incident' so we'll have to wait for the facts before executing anyone
Just seen another photo, the vessel on the port side is an assisting tug and not the vessel that collided with it, bloody news reporters could cause wars. Having seen the Conning Tower damage someone (if not more) really is/are going to have a restricted career and will be playing snakes and ladders going to the bottom again. With all the modern aids on such vessels it defies logic that these subs should ever be in trouble, but having been on the bridge of an RN ship you would struggle to find who really is in command, so many people doing different things, where on an MN ship the OOW is in charge until the Master takes over making it a one man operation. 'Too many cooks spoil the broth' comes to mind, also these RN types always seem to under estimate the speed of merchant ships and always over estimate their (MN) manouverability with a single screw. Only yesterday was talking to an ex RN man who had never been on a single screw ship and seemed astounded that MN ships normally only had one prop, said he wouldn't know how he would have managed
