Boris Johnson
Is there anybody out there that can explain to me how Boris was given the Foreign Office job. Knowing so little about him apart from the fact he was the London Mayor and was a big influence in bringing the 2012 Games to London, what else has he done?
Will he be a good Foreign Secretary and to the benefit of Britain? From what I have read he has in the past thrown quite a few insults around. Any information would be most welcome. Does Theresa May know something we don't? Or is he being set up?
Regards
John C

Re: Boris Johnson
I my opinion Boris is not as daft as he looks and acts John. He is somewhat like Prince Phillip - speaks as he sees - which is not an all together bad thing, but he is also a very serious man with a deep respect and love of the UK. I dont think for one minute that Thersa May would want the UK to become a laughing stock, nor do I believe she is naive enough to let him drop us all in the ,,,,. She knows what she is doing and I think that given time Boris will show us all what a good politician ( if ever there is such an animal ) that he is. I think that he has the charisma and ability to be an excellent Foreign Secretary, the French and all the other EU bureaucrats are ridiculing him now because he had the audacity to get the UK out of their rule, so he is certainly not their flavor of the month. I hope he gives them hell and brings us back with the Commonwealth and our other great friends like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Re: Boris Johnson
Thanks Chris for a quick and prompt reply and I have to say I concur with your observations. I just wondered if it was me that was seeing him in this light. One thing that did impress me on all of the televised debates on ITV and BBC was the fact that he was the only panellist who at the end of his speech received a standing ovation which made me think that there is more to this guy than we know off.

Re: Boris Johnson
I learned a long time ago never go on appearances. One experience of many. Was sent back to join an American Flag ship up the northern parts of Australia. America up until the end of the century and hopefully still have the ruling, that every ship under their flag had to have an American presence on board, the same as the now long defunct British maritime law. However the American second mate on board who was the original master had a death in the family and the only way the US coastguard would release him was if I went back( as had been the previous master) to let him off under special dispensation. I flew back up to Barrow Island and the ship sent in a boat for me. There had been a change of crew when I had come off days previously and the coxswain of the boat appeared to me to be someone like the devil incarnate, young, long hair, safety pins through his eyebrows, rings through his tongue, covered in tattoos, and I thought God what a mess. However he turned out just the opposite to his appearance, was a well spoken young man, an excellent and trustworthy seaman, and I was totally wrong on my first impression. There are many like him, so I never base any thoughts on first impressions. Boris appears to some as a big buffoon, but am sure will soon prove otherwise. Cheers JWS

Re: Boris Johnson
This situation is a bit of a riddle looking in from outside.
May wants to stay, Boris says we go?
Could it be that because of his dealing with France and others she thinks that by putting him there they will let you go earlier just to get rid of him?
Or is it a case of keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Boris Johnson
Boris will turn up with the goods when required and he's just itching to get stuck into the Sproutocrats.A good combination when teamed up with new Brexit minister David Davis. And with Nigel Farage still an MEP watching things I would say we have a good team. It's a pity Michael Gove backstabbed BoJo and will not be part of the team because he was a convincing Brexiteer. I now actually feel that Frosty Knickers May has bypassed Gove because she sees him as too dangerous, either because she fears he will make sure we do Leave (she wants to still Remain, one can sense), or because she fears being backstabbed or undermined by him (Gove.

Re: Boris Johnson
#1, Have always had a soft spot for Boris John, and the mere fact that he's not PC
makes him even more attractive
As to how Europe, USA etc rates him, who gives a fig....Sarkozy, Botelli, Bush
Mrs May is astute, I like that she has put her trust in him.

Re: Boris Johnson
I believe Boris is pretty astute, and when other people think you are stupid is sometimes to your advantage. I think he will do the job fine, as I see him he has one weakness and it wears a skirt, I can see why Marion has a soft spot for him, as do I suspect many ladies do, it's weather he takes advantage of that, and the scandal damages him when it breaks, time will tell kt

Re: Boris Johnson
Boris is a very intelligent and well educated man, something that is missing in most politicians. He can speak eight languages fluently.
something that is useful when negotiating in Europe, if the frogs or krauts are talking behind his back.
I like him because he is different from the usual pollie.
Brian.
