Well done Doc Vernon, Marion and John.
Can't say the same to the rest of you, as your respect for the thousands of fallen on D Day can only be described as " SHAMELESS".

Re: 72nd Anniversary of D Day Landings.
I never saw a mention in the papers or TV News.
The EU says it never happened, it was just a Hollywood Movie, `Searching for Private Ryan`, all Fiction. WW2 Never happened, in Brussels it was all airbrushed out of History.
I still don't know how my Uncle Ron lost his life on 6 June 1944, probably just swimming on a beach in a place called Normandy in France. His own fault I guess, he just should have stayed at home and gone to Blackpool. Much safer.

I guess that is a little strong Fouro, We all have our own ways of remembering family members who gave the supreme sacrifice.
His very young widow, ex ATS in WW2, Aunty Flo, has just died aged 98.

Re: 72nd Anniversary of D Day Landings.
Brian I fear the irony in your post will be lost on the disrespectful perpetrator of that post, who would seem to be calling those members attitudes here 'shameless' for not acknowledging and thanking him for his initial post re the D-Day landings. I will say that if anything I think the members of this site are too aware and extremely respectful of their past history;witness all the commemorative posts we write or respond to.
He clearly doesn't know his fellow shipmates on this site and has no respect for anyone.

A really uncalled for disappointing remark, and very and disrespectful to those who served and to the families that survived.

Re: 72nd Anniversary of D Day Landings.
Firstly, what I was referring to as "SHAMELESS" was the poor response to the D-Day thread, "nothing else", that's how I felt, no crime in that.
If I may continue,
The meaning of the D-Day anniversary will eventually change when all of us who were alive at the time it happened are gone. One mustn't forget our forces went through hell during that Landing (the largest sea invasion ever to take place in modern history).
We need people to remember what these brave souls did and why they did it, otherwise all will be forgotten and rapidly long-grassed, similar to what happened to this topic earlier on.
D-Day should be honoured anually as it is one of the most important dates in human history.
The incredible sacrifice, courage and determination of such a Generation should never be forgotten.
! disrespectable perpetrator !, strong words Gulliver.
Some words of advice:
Never ask anyone for an opinion of yourself as you are so low nobody could have an opinion of you.
FOURO.
