Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
Also watched our News here which is covering those Horrific Fires ,not dissimilar to what we have had in the past as well, but as said when living in Bushfire prone Areas one must be vigilant at all times in the Hot Seasons!
It is said in a post that Sprinklers should be put on Roofs ,and this is a very good idea,in fact three Years ago I got up on our Roof here and did put three Sprinklers on ,it is a great help and peace of mind! When the Fires rage I then Block all the Downpipes and Open the Sprinklers, this helps a lot!
We have had back Burning going on here in the Mountains in the past few days and have been chocking with the Smoke caused by it,but a necessary Evil so to speak,as this really helps when Fires of that size break out!
Good on our RFS Lads and Ladies who I must say do a sterling job at all times!
As I know about these dangers all I can say is that I pray that things will get better there in Alberta and that they will hopefully get Rain,Rain and more Rain!
Our Hearts go out to all who are affected there, stay strong and fight back!
All the best in Alberta!
Cheers

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
Their only hope is cooler temps and a BIG rain storm.
Sadly neither one is forecast.
Although believe it or not, they have had snow in some Northern parts
In BC we have major fires. One in Prince George is the worst out of around 190 presently burning..
Crazy weather.

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
Hi Den.
Our thoughts are with all those people caught up in that fire, we have some big fires down here, but nothing so far thank God on this level. We always said that the gum trees are the problem but the oil in those firs must be more volatile. Hope the rain pours down sooner rather than later.
Cheers Des

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
One of the major problems with bush fires such as this is the way they react to the fuel they burn. Many trees have oil of sorts in them, gume trees are the worst, they haet up and explode sprteading the fire further. They also create their own wind which blows the fire on, putting one out or gaining control is one of the hardest things fire fightesr have to do. The a sudden wind change and who knows where that could push the fire. They are easy to start but hard to put out.

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
My Grandson, a Fire Fighter in Wainwright Alberta was sent to Fort McMurray. Their detachment made a firebreak without any god result. He is OK but very dangerous work, now safely back in Wainwright. No need to tell how proud I am. We phone and text each other often. Cheers, Eric

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
In past years when the bus fires have raged here in Oz many of the Canadian fire fighters have come over here to assit us. I do hope we have sent some of ours this time to help out over there.

Re: Lets spare a thought for our Canadian friends
Hi John,
Haven't heard of any firefighters from Oz.
Some came up from the States.
