The amazing thing about water is that when it freezes it expands. So all those 'greenies' who tell us we will be flooded when the ice bergs melt i think have no substance. In my opinion the water will take up less room not more.

AH yes John, but the ice , glaciers , etc rises above sea level, so therefore takes up air space rather than sea space. When they melt they revert back to water and back into the sea so the sea levels rise.

Thought that an ice berg displaces its own weight in water, so if it melted the same amount of water is still there.
If you put a big chunk of ice in a glass jug floating in water and mark the levels it would still be the same level when the ice melted,
I have never tried it but that is what I was told by someone, somewhere in the distant past,
But again maybe a glacier would be extra water with it being on land.

Its the amount of ice on land that I meant, whose melt waters run into the sea thus adding to the sea and increasing sea levels.

###my funniest memory was of black adder and baldrick sailing round the isle of wieght.......for three years ...and black adder saying we must drink each others urine baldrick ........then ends up with a tiny egg cup full of baldricks and gives baldrick a gallon and a half of his to drink ......showing of course who had been guzzling the water......cappy
