    Default OAP Increase 2016.

Just had notification of my weekly increase in state pension £3.35 doesn't seem a lot but i'm quite happy with the pension anyway, obviously everyone would like more but we are far better off than what are parents received in their time.
    Regards.

#1.. Jim you sound as though are happy Good on yer. Have just received a copy of Pension entitlements here in Oz for different situations as it is means tested.
The maximum pension for a married couple is 1307.00 dollars, which is made up of the maximum basic rate of 1188.60 dollars plus 97.20 pension supplement plus 21.20 energy supplement.
You can also claim rent allowance up to a maximum of 121.80 dollars a fortnight. This comes to a total of 1428.80 dollars a fortnight. I really don't know anyone who gets the full amount as said is means tested. At 2 dollars to the pound that equates to 714.40 pounds a fortnight or 357.20 pounds a week. So more than likely you are getting more than the poorer citizens of this country. Cheers John S. PS Maybe that's why you have more illegals. Cheers JS

I can ssure you John that for those of us in our 70's - 90's+ who do not claim any extras and/or told we are not entitled to them because we have paid contributions for 60 years plus that the State Pension is nearly half of what you have depicted. Of course if you have not contributed anything, or have drunk your life away, or dare I say it, an immigrant, then in addition to the pension you can claim rent allowance, various credits for various perceived illnesses which will prevent you from working then you can double what you've quoted

I know when I left the UK in 1991 there was this clique of people who were born and died and never worked. A sad state of affairs. My own brother was out of work for 3 years and took to his room and would barely speak to anyone as think he thought it was a shameful thing. He has worked in a dead end job now for nearly fourty years and is scared to lose it before he retires at whatever age it is now, he is 64 but cant retire at 65 like we used to do. I have every regard for people like him, but you, now the same as oz have these people today have no intention of working and think it is their right to be kept by others. How to pick out the shirkers from the workers is going to be a full time job in itself. Cheers JS
