Re: Stop Immigration Petition.
It may have been mentioned while iwas away and forgive me if it was debated, But to all British Nationals wherever your back yard stops. Lets not forget the terrible floods and the Brits with small buisness North, South, East, @ West the U.K. Over that are still in the doldrums after the country was cut in half and thats going to set any government back a pretty penny to rienforce our sea defences let alone to try and keep people afloat with the basics along with British resident,s that where washed out. These problems are more important to joe public than having to voice your opinion on wether we take half of bloody Syria in. Personally Mr Osbourn can take £10 a month out of my state pension pot go ahead do it and i am sure another 25,000,000 in the country would do the same but only to aid the children of Syria, Not the young men landing in Greece with smart phones and tablets, I have depended on myself since i was 16 yrs old and many times it was no walk in the park and aboard ships in war zones just like most on this site. The plain truth is we dont have the resouces to accomodate anymore migrants political asylam seekers or otherwise it has to stop otherwise we go
. Terry.

Re: Stop Immigration Petition.
I think Cameron is right in this respect, he says we will take orphans from the camps in Turkey, if we take it on face value and take kids from EU, we will find suddenly parents turning up, kt

Re: Stop Immigration Petition.
Call me cold hearted but I have very little sympathy for any of those refugees in camps from Syria or those from N. Africa attempting to cross the Mediterranean, as they put themselves there by rebelling against the regimes in power in there own countries. O.K. so the Assad regime may not have been the best but Syria seemed to have a relatively good infrastructure, health care etc. and its citizens were fed and had decent housing. Instead of waiting for the inevitable decline of the dictatorship there they, like a typical Arab, demanded immediate change so they could have freedom of speech etc. The majority of those Syrians most likely had no idea what they were rebelling against Assad for but just went along with the views and actions of a few rabble rousers who thought they could have a better life than what Assad was giving them (most likely without having to work for it).
Eventually all dictatorships fail due to either the dynasty dying out or purely and simply because life moves on and however hard the dictator tries, eventually they have to start allowing their citizens some sort of autotomy.
The Roman empire tried it by allowing the countries they conquered to govern themselves (under Roman Rule), China under Mao eventually turned into the biggest capitalist economy in the world.
What I am trying to say is that given enough time and with no outside interference from other countries, these dictatorships eventually run their course. If the U.S.A, Britain and France plus other western nations had not attempted to force the "Arab spring" upon the likes of Libya, Egypt, Syria or get rid of dictators in Iraq etc., then eventually, as can be seen with Iran, without invading or forcing our ways upon these countries, their own citizens work towards a peaceful change for the better.
Simplistic view I know but that's the way I see it.

Re: Stop Immigration Petition.
I agree with a lot of assumptions in your post John, And i for one posted on this forum 2 years go that this was to be the worst civil war or one of them in history and everything possible that can be done to avoid it should be done. Unless they are all prepared to down arms and enter into rhetoric with each other, But thats not the way Arabs think.
Wait until next summer we aint seen nothing yet Regards Terry.

Re: Stop Immigration Petition.
As I see it Cameron has not asked for lot and is not been offered a lot from the EU, what I think will happen - is that at the last minute the EU will make an offer. The offer will give Cameron 90% of what he wants and will be hailed as a success.
The Ins will be ecstatic, claiming victory and urging us to vote yes.
If the country is stupid enough to vote yes, a crisis will engineered that puts revised offer on the back burner for a time and overtime the EU will quietly renege on any promises of change to the UK.
Fanciful - no, years ago T.B, gave up a large chunk of our rebate on a vague promise of rethink of the Common Agricultural Policy - guess what? - no plans to rethink the CAP.
I watch question time on BBC and some of the Yes Campaign statements are beyond a joke:-
1) Don't have to change currency when travelling to the ERU=excuse me we still have the pound the last time I looked.
2) No Immigration controls.
3) Loss of money from, the EU- don't the realise its our money recycled.
We give the EU some £19b and get about half back in EU projects, think what we could do with that money.
No one mentions the effect on the loss £10b or more on the EU, is Germany going to make up the shortfall, will France?
If we vote out, don't be surprised if we are ordered to have a second vote, after all Ireland and Denmark had to have two referendums when they initially rejected EU rules.
Regards
Vic
