And there's the cheap treatment; Rub cooking salt to the affected areas, sit over a bucket of water. Thirst results and the offenders drop into the water and drown.

Re: Save money
We have six panels on our roof provided free by the last Labor gov. The scheme closed not ,long after it started, too costly for the gov. It is not as good as the one Richard has as we still have to pay some, but it keeps our bill down to about a third of the average house. The efficiency depends on the seasons, best in spring and autumn. But if you can get it for free then go for it.

Re: Save money
I looked the deal up, which is closing very shortly, the only draw back as far as i can see is it is a deal for 25 years, which if you go to sell, could help, but could hamper. they are very fussy (who can blame them) as to which way your house faces, must be facing South etc KT

Re: Save money
Keith I think that's the old scheme apparently this one is free of tie in's,this mate who has just had it fitted is 76 ,wife about same age so I don't think they would be going into 25 year contracts.I'l be seeing this guy later today and get a bit more info. The only problem to get the full details on the scheme you can't just log onto the site for the details you have to enter your full name and address, telephone number, email and some other details.after filling that in you will have a knock on the door from a rep.

Re: Save money
I had 6 panels put on roof years ago when they first started in Australia. They were supposedly government sponsored and partly paid for. Was stated they were worth 12000 dollars and the cost to those who bought was about 4000 dollars so the subsidy was pretty good. Over the years I have watched at various times what they make on the conversion box fastened to an outside wall. The most have seen them make in daylight hours has been 5.9 kilowatts, and more normal days in winter about 2 kilowatts. The Electric Bills however even though must be reduced somewhere along the line are nearly always over 120 dollars, and as these bills come in every 2 months you be the judge. According to the adverts out here they are much cheaper now than what they were, however whenever I ask for an estimate to add to my six they always seem reluctant to come and give an estimate. The ones I have were made in Germany so maybe they are hard to match up. Cheers JS

Keith, it is not so much the way the house faces as to where the most un hits the roof. Here in Oz the best position is on a NE facing roof. For you I would suggest any part of the roof facing SW.

Keith you are right about the 25 year contract.I spoke to the guy yesterday who has just had it fitted he confirmed that you do sign up for 25 years. So when the house comes to be sold the new buyer does not have an option on saying he doesn't want the panels he has to take them with the house.I suppose you would expect the new buyer would be glad the panels are fitted but I think that it is an attachment to your house that you wouldn't want.

Re: Save money
That's pretty much my take on it Jim,when you go to sell your house the least complications the better, it would be another opportunity for the buyer to haggle, even if he really did want them. Regards KT
