Re: To Each His own.
For many years the Salvation Army Brass Band always came into my avenue on Christmas Day morning playing carols.
I always enjoyed it , a lovely sound of a good Brass band,
Since the moo, slims, moved in it has now stopped. and Christmas Day is not the same any more.
It was the same as the annual Sermons from the local church every May, they always had a Brass Band at the head and stopped in each avenue to play a hymn. an old English Custom now stopped by the Moo, slims.
My dear old Dad was a Brass Bandsman for most of his life,. recorded as the best E-flat Bass player in the country in the 30s. he used to sit on a stool in our bedroom and play it while the three of us in one bed went to sleep. lovely sound. His shadow on the wall from the candle we had as no electric,
I was in the Salvation Army as a small boy in the 30s and 40s they called us `Sunbeams` no less.
My mother was also in the Salvation Army in the 20s, and was a close friend of Diana Dors Mother, I have photos of her.
They are very good at tracing missing people,.
They found the lad who saved my life in South Africa in 1953, 48 years later. even tho` I knew nothing about him, only his name, and he had moved to different parts of South Africa, Rhodesia, and they found him in Scotland. So I always donate to the Salvation Army. A lot of people give them some stick but obviously do not know the good work they do.
Cheers
Brian

Re: To Each His own.
I could not open it,
But after being hit by a car and injured my knee, I was due to have an arthroscopy operation on it.
The Doctor said , first we will try to fix it with exercise.
this was three years ago, and ever since, every morning before I climb out of my bunk I lie on my back and rotate my feet to exercise my ankles and calves and then I do 60 , or 30 on each leg , knee up to my chest and down. that has worked, no leg pain, no operation required and I feel better for the exercise before I get out of bed.
So I still maintain it every day and feel fit at 81 next birthday.
Cheers
Brian

Re: To Each His own.
Just a little story mixing religion and love to mankind as viewed from the United States.
Little Thelma, 6 yrs. old, comes home from school and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentines Day.
"Since Valentines Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish," she asks, "Will God get mad at me for giving someone a Valentine.?"
Thelma's father thinks a bit then says "No, I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a Valentine to ?"
"The whole of Isis group," she says.
"Why them?" her father asks in shock.
"Well," she says, "I thought that if a little American Jewish girl could have enough love to give them a Valentine, they might start to think that maybe we're not all bad and maybe start loving people a little bit. And if other kids saw what I did and then they sent Valentines to them, they'd love everyone a lot. And then they'd start going all over the place telling everyone how much they loved them and how they didn't hate anyone any more."
Her fathers heart swells and he looks at his daughter with new found pride. "Thelma, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard."
"I know," Thelma says, "and once that gets them out in the open, the Marines can blow the crap out of them."
It sort of makes one feel warm and fuzzy all over.

Re: To Each His own.
#11... One of the Charitys I always give to as well Brian. However is a point to show that there are hypocrytes in every walk of life. Anyhow his sex life was his own business as ours were. Probably his parents also in the band would have clipped his ears if had known. Apart from maybe having him doctored. Cheers John S
