As we did not get the referendum they promised before, i will treat this time with a lot distrust, i even believe they will try to dodge holding a referendum at all , but then thats me , never trust politicians, kt

if he tries to pull the wool{like they have done before} the backlash would be on his head? if we had strong leaders we would not be in the situation at all? Britain has always fought for what is hers until we joined the club we are lions turned into sheep on a lead controlled by others start saying no to the eu owners of our country.. jp

The problem you have with such a referendum is that there are a large number, mainly the younger generation, who will consider it is good to stay in. With that in mind it may be the gov does not have to weight the question the younger ones will se it through

All the general public have to do for those old enough to remember is to go back to the days of austerity shortly after the war, continue through to the era of the good life, and now look to the present and the immediate future and see what lies in wait. For those not old enough to remember the after war austerity years just look at the way things are going and also what lies in wait. By coming out of Europe you may attain a few more years of similar after the war period, but will to all intents and purposes retain your own sovereignty, self respect, a future for the next generations. What was given away by such treatys as the slobs in office at the time will have to be clawed back, as usual by the ordinary people who are very capable of doing it under a proper and no secret governments of the past. The likes of the Lima Agreement should be seen for what it was at the time, a means of various politicians ingratiating themselves with foreign powers which no government in its right mind would do so. Such types of government were not fit to run a country then and similar types are certainly not fit to run one now. The UK should be an example to those who have followed its political progress as a good example of the way not to go. The answer is with the British people themselves an answer that the future generations will have to live with. I know which way I would vote if still lived there, but am only one vote and would go the majority as is the custom. This will be the biggest vote the people of the UK will ever have to make, so hope they get it right. However all this depends on one promise from one pollie who when it gets near the time could come down with some ailment like cold feet, and his successor get out of it as wasn't him who made the promise. History will show the answer if there is going to be one. Cheers JS

There in John lies the problem for the younger generation. They have never known a time when it was hard to feed yourself, food was rationed, times were tough. But so were the people and they got through it to the best two decades of the last century, the 60's and 70's. Now it is all on a plate for the younger ones and they think the world owes them a living. Maybe a few tough years might do them good.
