Re: Freedom of expression
I’m sorry I upset you Doc, I merely said what I thought was the right thing to say. Mind you, I’ve been in greater or lesser trouble all my life for speaking my mind, without innuendo. Right back in fact to when, in primary school, I showed my contempt to a nasty stepmother, even when she had the blood running down my back (Oh, my hero – No, just a fact). Even at that age, it wasn’t just for me, but for what a big strong woman did to a defenceless child – any child.
I’m sorry, but I see no valid reason to retract anything in my Post. On the other hand your ‘right perspective’ may not be everyone’s. There is nothing you have ‘supposedly done’ besides those two threads. If there was I would have said so. As for ‘going nowhere’ I’ve already covered that. ‘I think enough was said’ seems rather in conflict with ‘nothing to do with my beliefs’.
I very much appreciate that you do a great deal of good work on the site, and hope you continue to do so; and I’m sure it can sometimes become rather wearing. But what on earth are ‘those kinds of Posts”? It’s debatable whether the original Post in question should be defined as a complaint, or simply as a comment; probably a bit of both. I realise the Rules state ‘in Private’, but just because something is a Rule doesn’t necessarily make the Rule Right. I don’t dispute the fact that Brian has the absolute right to make the Rules, but an occasional consultation with the members wouldn’t be such a bad thing. ‘in Private’, in my personal opinion, should be reserved for extreme cases.
I personally will continue to say things as I see them, until I’m excommunicated. But we Scots have a long history of that sort of thing. Seven hundred years ago a Pope ordered the Scots to accept the king of England as their king, instead of Robert the Bruce. The Scots told him more or less to go jump in the lake, so he excommunicated not only King Robert, but the entire Scottish nation. But the Scots – including clergy – continued to defy him. Not so many years later the same Pope declared King Robert Bruce to be ‘The Greatest Knight in Christendom’>
Come laugh with me Doc!

Re: Freedom of expression
I doubt it is easy at times for Vernon to decide what to leave and what to move, sure some will not like the outcome but that is the nature of the site. It is open to the public and if a thread is of a contraverstional nature then the mediator must consider if it is in the correct place. Such items maybe should be put in scuttlebutt.
But on a more stupid note, one uni here has suggested that a scholarship be opened in their names.

Re: Freedom of expression
What would you like me to do with the wood Cappy? I'm open to suggestions.
PS On your question, the answer is it has nothing at all to do with it - that's part of the point.

Actually Cappy, most people around here would use it for cooking. By the way, that 'old Scottish pretender' didn't half make a mess of your lot - the worst defeat ever suffered by an English army. I wonder what he would have done if he hadn't been just pretending!
