I was invited to the Tory fund raising Black & White Ball on Monday night. Didn't see any blacks there. A great many distinguished guests including hedge fund managers, bent bankers, porn barons and tax dodgers. All fine upstanding ladies and gentlemen, the backbone of British society. Over 2 million raised at the auction for Tory coffers. There was a standing ovation for Dave when he said " We are all in this Together ".

The peerage is a legal system of largely hereditary titles in the United Kingdom, which is constituted by the ranks of British nobility and is part of the British honours system. The term is used both collectively to refer to the entire body of noble titles (or a subdivision thereof), and individually to refer to a specific title (and generally has an initial capital in the former case and not the latter). The holder of a peerage is termed a peer.

In modern practice, only members of the Royal Family are granted new hereditary peerages. Only life peerages which carry the personal right to sit and vote in the House of Lords are generally granted to honour individuals in modern practice; the last non-royal hereditary peerages were created under the Thatcher government. The fact remains that the majority of nations that have had a Labor or Socialist style gov over the pas decade or so have massive financial problems. Not sure about UK now but here in Oz so many of the Labor side come from e trade union and still ten to act like the bully. Spend money that is not there, rot the system, one federal and two state members charged by police of fraud . Not saying he other side is perfect, far from it, but he fact is that under a Conservative style gov most nations far better. Industry appears more willing to invest under such a gov a when Labor are in. Labor in many countries will look after the down and to maybe a higher level, but do so in an honest manner then you must have the financial ability to do so, but so many Labor govs have not done so.

Sadly there are also many with the green eye many who think the go owes them a living and they will always as go for the ones who make the biggest hand outs.

#88... Terry think the person who wrote out the definition as regards the now ex minister was dictating to his secretary after a hard night in the Houses bar, and with his speech being a bit slurred sounded like peer when in fact it was queer. Everyone had to go along with it then . Cheers JS
