Just read your list Jim, it's a bit out of date. Howard Hughes crossed the bar (not the one in his Las Vegas hotel) yonks ago (that's yonks not yanks).

    Cheers, Rodney

    Hey Red Leg Ted.

I too remember poverty. When I was a kid of twelve or so, living in Chingford, Essex, London E4. I brought a note home to give to my Gran. The school was going to give swimming lessons instead of P.T., and Rodney should come to school on Friday with a swimming costume and a towel.

Doesn't sound to traumatic does it? Except there was no money for extravagant and frivolous things as a "cozy." My Gran being the industrious person she was, took one of my granddads old V-neck sweaters and made me one. Trimmed down arms for my legs, and tuck and trim to fit with the striped pattern of the V-neck looking like a sown in fly. Oh! and a hem sewn around the waist with tied together boot laces as a draw-string.

Came the day for the swimming lesson and the class is changing in to "cozies", and one snotty nosed Axxhole
pointed and shouted "Mills is wearing his jumper!" The class hooted and hollered and I will never forget that.

I've been poor and I've been moderately rich, and for arguments sake I'll call it rich...Rich beats poor any day. And I never forget to help those less fortunate whenever I can. And when I was an evil capitalistic running-dog boss. I did what ever was in my power for employees....Because but for my ambition there we went I.

Like Roders I too can recall poverty, my mother giving me a button and saying go next doo rand see if they have a shirt they can sew on this.

No one wants to go back to those day but no country can now afford to spend more than it earns unless It wants to become like Greece Employment in UK is improving . but still has some way to go. Sadly UK gov has too many in the EU telling it what t do and this the legacy of joining EU. Bu at the same time there are still those who think the country owes them a living an are quite happy to pick up the dole cheque each week.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I guess we are all Philanthropists..

It is all relative to what you have,
I remember the story in the Bible of the Widows Mite, when that is all she had and put it in the poor box, someone critisized her, Jesus said that was more money than what the Rich person had put in.
    .
I donate to various causes by Direct Debit from my bank account, it is just what I can afford on a Taxed Pension.
Now is that any less than a Multi Billionaire dropping a few Millions in ???????
and to many Millionaires donations to a Charity is Tax Free, another Tax Dodge, Ask Tony Bliar, he is an expert.
    Cheers

#23 for Grandma. Rodney, I have a photograph of my late aunt aged 8 wearing a little knitted number that my mum said was no use for anything On leaving the water the straps had sagged to her elbows

Rod, You must agree you where the exception to the rule, And good on you But you must admit the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer the North South divide is still as prevalent as it ever was and capitalism is alive and well. I myself have been on both sides of the coin, There was a time when I couldn't afford to buy my own kids an ice cream, These days if I see any child crying as the ice cream van pulls away I stop it and although you have to be very careful what you do or how you are portrayed I love to put the smile back on that childs face. And as I have said before we purchase an extra food parcel most weeks for a local food bank, We don't see it as much as a hand out more of a hand up. Regards Terry.

Terry my friend, I don't necessarily agree with your first two lines but I love that you have a kind heart. M
