Re: The world's getting hotter?
#38... John you have me worried now. I have a bore for watering the garden and in the summer run it 3 times a week for a sprinkler system for the rather large front garden which has 4 stations plus the two in the back yard. Whenever I put on starting from next month it will always be in the back of my mind we maybe shortly be going aground. Hopefully we should get some warning by cracks appearing in the brickwork so can take to the cars before she touches bottom fully. Will have to keep the cars stocked up with the usual stores, a couple of cases should last a day or so. Cheers JS

Re: The world's getting hotter?
NASA claim that from their satelites in space they can see the world is at it's hottest ever recorded. Those satelites have only been operating since about 1973. n the 1600' Samuel Peyps wrote that there had been a decade when in Europe the weather had been hotter than ever known before with drought taking hold across much of it. In the 1500's the Thames froze over on a number of winters.

Re: The world's getting hotter?
Y'all raised some interesting points re. Antarctica. The following links perhaps will give you food for thought. All are from reputable scientific sources like the BAS. There were many more sites, but I chose the ones that closely followed your feelings on this subject and the points you raised.
This link will answer, or if you prefer, give an opinion to the top ten claims against climate change. Many of which you have raised.
Climate Change Facts: Antarctica Is Losing Ice | Weather Underground
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS). This easy to read site explains the methodology used via core samples showing records going back 800,000 years.
https://www.bas.ac.uk/science/resear...limate-change/
This is a more in depth and interesting site featuring Antarctic climate change by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).
https://www.bas.ac.uk/data/our-data/...limate-change/
This site gives a much more in depth look at the Antarctic, and yes the Antarctic consists of three zones and one of them is in fact getting colder and building up ice, but it's the other two zones that are causing the concern. Skeptics, in the press, against the idea of global warning cherry pick facts that bolster their argument. "Give it a fair go" and a read.

Fact or Fiction. During and after the war it was put around by propaganda that Hitler had 2nd. degree syphilis. How many believe that. Was unprovable as there was no body recovered that could of had an autopsy done. Proof is in the mind of the beholder the same as religion. JS

Re: The world's getting hotter?
Latest here today, the weather people have been dragged over the coals for supplying the gov with false information regarding the climate. The figures given were so over the top as to be unbelievable but used by the gov without realizing how false they were.y
It was NZ scientists who found the southern iceshelf to be wider and deeper than ever recorded.

Re: The world's getting hotter?
John people today are as much educated and have in most cases more brain power than politicians whose sole job seems to consist of taking advice from others, one has to consider the likes of Alf Gore, who has either done a fast course on meteorology or has someone behind him pulling the strings. I know which one I believe. Any advert you see on TV can be put in the same category they pay quids to get a recognizable face such as film star or ex sports person, to use psychology on the client thinking if someone of such and such a stature says it is right it must be right. What a lot of codswallop. Climate Change is now a cottage industry it employs thousands who the tax payer is supporting for What! absolutely nothing Zilch. Most are aware of smog and how it is caused and are right behind cutting back on and always have been. To try and take it further and bring Climate change into the equation and make people think they can alter the weather patterns and indeed the way it has been for milleniums is outright false information in my own estimation. We are conned by people from the day we are born. to be conned by governments is nothing new. The time is fast approaching when their use will be totally dried up as anyone listening to their ideas as most subjects they have very little knowledge on. Take one look at Europe and see where these so called high I.Q.s have left the people at. JS

Re: The world's getting hotter?
The tropics are still tropical, the Mediterranean is still Mediterranean, moderate climates still moderate and that is the climate. Weather patterns do vary from year to year and often there is a long term cycle. From memory in UK bad winters about every 15 to 16 years with a real stinker about every 30. That has been going on for generations. As to last year being the warmest, figures show that the last decade has seen no change in the average temp. Global consolidated weather records only began in 1948, prior it was only local records and some very questionable. But if you push out enough crap for long enough some will listen. I wonder if Gore had not lost the presidential election if he would have taken the course he has?

Re: The world's getting hotter?
47#. The tropics are only the tropics because the earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from the perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. If as your compass adjuster friend says the world has altered its tilt then the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn will also have slightly altered. This in itself would cause climate change as we think it should be. There are a hundred and one different reasons why the climate alters as it has always done and always will. Man made admissions may affect this in a small way, but not one that can be rectified by man, let the climate change pundits stick with reducing the smog issue that in itself is bad enough. Cheers JS

Re: The world's getting hotter?
John you are correct but if thje tropics move it does not mean they are no longer the tropics. They still exist but in a different place. A Canadian scientist at a seminar I attended put up some figures of what a volcanic eruption can put into the atmosphere compared with man. It was quite alarming as one eruption can do the work of man for almost a century. I also puts out emissions of chemicals man does not even use.

Re: The world's getting hotter?
#49... John the Tropics are simply the suns declination North or South of the equator during the suns annual apparent motion around the earth. I say apparent as the sun is a star and has no orbital motion, it is all the earths movement. I doubt whether the average climate change advocate has the rudimentary or basic intelligence of a 16 year old deck cadet. The earth also moves around the sun at varying speeds, any change in the numerous forces in our own heavenly solar system could cause changes in so called man made climate change. I doubt whether all these other avenues have been explored, and certainly have strict reservations on the likes of Al Gore having made any scientific studies into. Cheers JS
