Shangri-La
During your MN travels or otherwise, where and why did you yearn to return?

Re: Shangri-La
Where to start Marian, there were so many wonderful places, and som eof the ladies were beyond belief, most of the grog was good as well.
But a number of places stick in my mind, Suez canal, the voyage to the north of Sweden just before the sea froze over for the winter. The view from the top of Table Mountain and the ladies down below.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Shangri-La
Like John says Marian
So many good places and memories !
But if I had to pick one place and time and a yearning to return there it would be a trip like my very first on one of the old type Passenger Liners from Cape Town sailing towards London's King George 5 Docks, going round the East Coast of Africa with all those old exoctic ports, and the things that went with them, then going past those Oh so lovely White Cliffs Of Dover before entering to me was once the greatest Docks I had seen (ie besides my lovely Cape Town with that Mountain in the background) London!
Although I have been back there it certainly was not the place I recall when I first arrived there in 1958.
But then all things change don't they!
Cheers

Re: Shangri-La
Mind you wouldn't mind if I could go to that supposedly wonderful place Shangri-La then may be I could get all my youth back ! LOL!
No it wouldn't work that way around would it!
What a nice but somewhat weird Film that was about that place with Richard Coleman wasn't it?
" Lost Horizon"

Re: Shangri-La
many places but a sight to behold is mount Fuji snow capped and blossom around the base, but as a full blooded scouser the sight of the liver buildings coming out of the mist is very special to us like putting your key in your front door you are home{then you want to go away again} for some more life at sea...jp

Re: Shangri-La
Without a doubt -- the northern part of Taiwan, south of Keelung, in particular the Sun Moon Lakes and the hot springs area of Petou. Formerly a Japanese colony for about three hundred years, the area had been developed by harnessing the hot springs and thermal lakes into perfumed spas and plunge pools, all serviced by the most beautiful woman on this planet and expert masseuses to boot. Sheer heaven if you were male but woman were welcome also !! Regards Peter in NZ.

Re: Shangri-La
There are so many places, but it was Bristol for me, may seem mundane for some, we were docked in Avonmouth. I had a night ashore on a Friday, saw a girl at a dance in Bristol and I knew I was going to marry that girl before I'd even spoken to her or knew her name, but once we'd had the first dance, we danced together all night and I escorted her home. I was on duty Saturday and Sunday, I took her to lunch on the Monday and I sailed away Monday night, thought it was for three months but it was one of Ropners and I never saw her again until twentytwo months later but we corresponded all that time, no chance of a phone call in those days. Well I did marry her and we had twentyeight years of honeymoon together before she died at a young age. So Bristol will be forever in my heart.
