No Entry?
Just watching a news report where a British journalist arriving from Liberia,(an ebola hotspot) was approached by immigration officials at Heathrow Airport and INVITED to be checked for any symptoms of the disease. It would seem that our border controls would rather risk the health of this country than to offend travellers from infected areas, and deprive them of their 'human rights' by giving them an option to be checked. I can hardly see that occurring at, say, Kennedy Airport or any airport in OZ. I realise that screening checks are made at point of embarkation in West Africa, but as most members familiar with that coast will be aware of the possibility of a relaxing of certain rules when palms are greased. I sometimes despair about the policies of our politicians, left, right or coalition. Well, if ebola comes knocking on my door I'm ready for it - the antidote is in place, a litre of Ron Bacardi and a foot long cigar (still unsmoked) courtesy of Mr John Pruden.
Cheers
Gilly.

Re: No Entry?
Wouldn't it be a good experience for either our (In cognito)PM Cameron, Deputy PM Clegg or Leader of the opposition Miliband to try the following. Their ship, an oil tanker berths in say Newark New Jersey. They get all washed and dressed in their best clothes go down the gangway to go ashore and they meet one of their renouned friendly Boarder Guards that look after the USA. Low and behold none of them has brought with them a passport, visa or aliens registration card. They tell the Boarder Guard they are only going ashore for a few hours and wont be any trouble. I can see the gun then handcuffs comming out and hear the cell doors closing behind them. Perhaps they might learn a lesson about boarder controls but I doubt it.

Re: No Entry?
We do not have any border controls, We have an open door to the world. There are no checks on any one coming here.
Remember Australia in the 50s,
All hands lined up on the boat deck, drop your keks and a short arm inspection by the Port health doctor, before being alowed ashore.
That should apply at Heathrow and all ports and airports.
All hands questioned about our political ideas in New York or no shore leave, and so on.
If it was good enough for us then do it to all who come into Britain. if they do not like it then do not come here, simple.

John you must have missed the intro to the news, the journo had not left the UK, it was an example up to show travellers what they could expect to happen to them, an announcement was made at the beginning of the news to allay peoples fears etc.

Re: No Entry?
Hi All.
Authorities world wide were far to lax at the start of this Ebola outbreak, probably thought it only effected people with black skin, just starting to slightly panic now. I remember when all planes coming to Australia after they landed an official went through the plane with a spray can and sprayed the whole cabin, don't know what it killed; not passengers anyway, someone complained and it was stopped.
In Bombay in the early 50s had to have all kinds of injections before we were allowed ashore, IN BOMBAY? picked more up ashore than taken there. yet in the UK they were more interested in finding out if you had more than your allowance of 200 cigarettes not Cholera.
Cheers Des.

charlie, oz might have had their white policy, but the chinese shop at the end of Peirmont bridge (1855) was very good eating after a night out.
the MN. museum there is worth a visit, a lot on the P&O and Orient company`s.

Re: No Entry?
Yes the white Australia policy, fine if you were of Chinese background or white Anglo Saxon background. But here in Oz our border patrol ituation at ports and airports is as tight as can be, a fart can not get through without some one noticing.you are found to be not what you claim you will be gone on the next available flight. Health checsk for anyone coming from certain countries.

Happy daze John in Oz.
