I think every man should have the ultimate right to withdraw his labour , his labour is his rights . The militant Unions which were corruptly and communist led , I believe are a thing of the past , but could be wrong . I believe now the unions have been castrated , and left with no room to maneuver . I don't like militancy , but it has , in the distant past been needed , The Mine Owners a long time ago tried to starve the Derbyshire miners back to work , I know it was over a hundred years ago , but I would hate us to get back there , and zero hour contracts are along that road

Slowly they are dying out in numbers here in OZ, not as miltant as they once were. In the 1960's about 95% of the work force was unionised, now it is down to about 16% and falling fast. Demise of motor manufacturing here and a lot of Quantas moving off shore will see it fall further. But with many they have shot themselves in the foot, Toyota is a classical case. But the worst the building union has gone quiet of late, with rostered days off etc they now do a 30 hour working week as full time.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

Bob Crow was the last, true union leader. He fought for his beliefs and his ambition to make a fairer society despite the abuse from politicians and right wing press.
I can think of many more who abandoned their principles and the workers they were paid to represent to take up a seat in the Lords.
Louis, Following my post agreeing with your views, It appears i was seen creating political forlorn and it was posted by Tony Morcom that the thread had been moved in fact my post has been deleted. it should precede Brenda,s reply. I have p.m. Tony twice and he won't admit deleting it or why. My post in hindsight has been echoed by politicians from all parties in the U.K. Left and right wing. In fact after returning home late thursday night gone i caught the BBC program This Week hosted by Andrew Neil with regular guests Michael Portillo former Thatcher cabinet minister, And Alan Johnston former Home secretary under Gordon Brown's Labour government. I was surprised my post two days earlier could have wrote the script for the show. As both gave praise to the negotiating skills of Bob Crow. No forlorn between them because just like me they spoke highly of his work dedication and how hard the RMT Union will find it to replace him. As a result of the lack of communication or explanation from Tony which surprises me. The wheel is amidships the kit bag is packed the gangway is down and i permanently take my leave from this forum. I have made many friends enjoyed the banter and to my own expense provided members the world over with dvd M.N. Memorabilia you were all very welcome. Bon Voyage all good health Terry.

Terry. I can only speak for myself, but hope you reconsider, I am certain Tony is just busy with other things, sleep on it mate. We all do things that are regretted later, hang on in there, please. All the best Keith.

PS The site has been a bit wobbly of late and though I do not know the ins and outs, guess much has occurred, hopefully, we can all pull together and get over some of the hurdles.

With respect Tony, I think splitting the original thread caused the confusion.
If it had all been redirected together the matter would not have arisen.

Quite some time ago as an example, Jaycn started an interesting post.....
If, I remember correctly? it then deviated somewhat, and for that reason it was
split also. It then seemed to appear in two places for a time, the result being
Jacyn's initial post ended rather prematurely I thought....... Perhaps for future reference
if a thread has to be redirected surely moving the whole thread at the same time would
cause less hassle for all concerned..... Just my opinion. No impoliteness intended.

The problem for union leaders such as Bob Crow and other dedicated ones is that they are not getting the backing of the union members that they represent. I noticed this near the end of my working life where firms where doing quiet deals with militant workers to reduce conditions within the workforce. Or to be precise use what ever they could to weaken the workforce to such an extent that the union had its hands tied because of this. Example was offering promotion to the workers that not only would be think of themselves but also sway the less militant workers to go along with it. I know that a lot on this site are anti union no matter what issue is being discussed and are not backward in expressing their distaste for anything concerning unions. What I find ironic is that the worker is still being exploited while those further up the scale are now enjoying salary's and conditions won for them from the workforce who had to go without pay and do it tough to gain them. I was a union delegate for our section for a short time and noticed how delegates from other sections acted when reporting back to the workforce and it made me fecking sick to hear them. I am sure that I attended a different meeting to them as they tried to further their own agenda. Like RLT I stood my ground and did not make to many friends within the union structure because I would not BS to the blokes I was working alongside. A lot of these delegates went on to become part of management and the further up the ladder they went the more they became parasites upon the workforce. Needless to say I soon chucked in the delegates position as I did not want to be part of how they all worked collectively. Must add that this was in the latter stages of my working life and before that most delegates where true to the workforce. So RLT mate if you read this consider signing back on before we become an extinct breed LOL.

So rest in peace Bob Crow you are now with the faithful mob as all the rest are down below trying to shaft one another.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
