Multiculturalism relates to communities containing multiple cultures. The term is used in two broad ways, either descriptively or normatively.As a descriptive term, it usually refers to the simple fact of cultural diversity: it is generally applied to the demographic make-up of a specific place, sometimes at the organizational level, e.g., schools, businesses, neighborhoods, cities, or nations.
As a normative term, it refers to ideologies or policies that promote this diversity or its institutionalization; in this sense, multiculturalism is a society “at ease with the rich tapestry of human life and the desire amongst people to express their own identity in the manner they see fit.”Such ideologies or policies vary widely, including country to country, ranging from the advocacy of equal respect to the various cultures in a society, to a policy of promoting the maintenance of cultural diversity, to policies in which people of various ethnic and religious groups are addressed by the authorities as defined by the group they belong to. However, two main different and seemingly inconsistent strategies have developed through different government policies and strategies: The first focuses on interaction and communication between different cultures. Interactions of cultures provide opportunities for the cultural differences to communicate and interact to create multiculturalism. This approach is also often known as interculturalism. The second centers on diversity and cultural uniqueness. Cultural isolation can protect the uniqueness of the local culture of a nation or area and also contribute to global cultural diversity.[citation needed] A common aspect of many policies following the second approach is that they avoid presenting any specific ethnic, religious, or cultural community values as central.
Multiculturalism is often contrasted with the concepts of assimilationism and has been described as a "salad bowl" or "cultural mosaic" rather than a "melting pot

But what I would tell anyone of a Multi ethnic background , preferably who speaks my language , in whatever accent they want , is Welcome , become part of Britain , enjoy our culture fuse with it , bringing your own diversity , try our Black Puddings , Stottie Cake , Pan of Scouse , Cornish Pasty , Devon Cream teas , Laver Bread , Cockles , Fife Bridies , Arbroath Smokies , Yorkshire puddings, The best pork sausage in the World . Learn about street Parties , our irreverent attitude to europe . Our Queen , Our humour , our Television , our History , and then regardless of where you are from , or where your parents are from , be proud to be amongst us , and to be one of us

They died so that the people of the world have the freedom to move about and live as they wish.
If you want different then they really did die in vain.
I think that they would be horrified that in spite of their sacrifices there are still people around today with so little tolerance for others.

, not sure about UK but here in Oz we will welcome all, but sadly there are those who come here and never make the effort ti integrate. They create ghettos of their own kind and that is where the problem lies.

sorry chris. I cannot agree with you. I do not condone terrorism or people walking about covered from head to foot so you cannot even tell If they are male or female I also do not approve of a stupid government that allows a drivers licence to be issued to a person wearing a burqua which only shows their eyes.

They tried the driving licence bit here as well as the passport but thankfully it never happened. But we had a judge here last year who would not allow a female to give eveidence against a white man she claimed had abused her unless she removed her face covering. There was also a time when when those wearing the Burqua could make special arrangement to see the bank manager with their fcae still covered. Such an outcry from the general public of discrimination that the practice has been abolished.

Chris, I visited London last year, first time in 18 years. I was horrified at the way it is now, where I once lived, Maida Vale not far from Lords, was once a very nice arae, now it is like a third world ghetto. Not one word of English to be heard anywhere, groups of a dozen or so 'persons' in full buquas roaming the streets, to say it was intimidating is an understatement.

we have had the jews with us for years. they have thier own schools there own areas and thier own religion. they do not interfere with other people, i have had dealings with them and they have a great sense of humour and honour. they do not inflict thier veiws or religion on others. they have thier own dress code but keep it to themselves.

They have also started businesses which employ thousands, but they have been prepared to integrate. We have a couple of feral MP who are of the Jewish faith and they are nice guys who consider then selves to be part of the community.

Here in Oz the Chinese have been here since the days of the gold rush, there is one city, Bendigo, where over half the twon can trace their roots to the Chinese. But as with all Chinese here they have mixed in , given us a great cultuer but NEVER attemted to brain wash us to their way of thinking.
My brother is currently having a new house built and we regularly go to take photos of each stage. the day they were setting the formwork for the concrete base there was a gang of five, one white four Sri Lankans. As I went to take th ephoto the Sri Lankans froze, 'O.K. I am not from the immigration department' I told them, smiles all round.
Then cam the brickies, four Lebanese who worked all weekend including the Monday public holiday. I got to talking with the site supervisor and asked why so many overseas workers. He told be all sub contractors and we prefer them as they will do the job without worryung about smoko, lunch breaks, eight hour day etc. On average they are earning over $3000 each per week. Work and you will do well. But like many others they have mixed well with the locals, it is mainly those from the part of the world where they wear facial covereings that do not mix.
