Re: Fancy a Cup of Coffee?
It is preferable to have your kopi luwak penas (hot Civet coffee). If you are offered the coffee you may also be offered a kretek (dried cloves) cigarette and all you could smell (and be smelled) for an hour after that was burnt cloves. One of the minor local airlines was Udara Penas (Hot Air). I will leave it to your imagination as to the expat's play on that.
When we first moved there we were munching some crispy things that we thought were deep fried noodles. I tried out my first smatterings of bahasa Indonesia "Enak sekali, bung. Apa itu". (Very delicious, friend, what is it)? "Ya tuan, ayam usus goreng". (Yes sir, fried chicken intestines).

Re: Fancy a Cup of Coffee?
went to Vitoria Brazil. there is a little kiosk just outside the dock gate. the coffee is served in a little china cup, about half the size of a demi-tasse. It is thick like treacle. you also get a glass of very hot water and two lumps of sugar. the idea is to put the sugar lump in your mouth, take a mouthful of the coffee, a mouthful of the hot water mix in your mouth, then swallow. there is enough for two mouthful's. best coffee I have ever tasted. drink the coffee on its own, very good hangover cure.
