Whether the weather?
100_1545.jpg
Have seen quite a lot of images on TV of the recent floodsand other bad weather events from UK, but we too have our moments.
We live about 20 kilometres from Tullamarine airport andabout 35 from the city of Melbourne. Sunbury is semi rural, a small township ofabout 32,000 and growing. On one side is a freeway and the other a major road. Our weather here tends to be a little different from that of the city withvariances in temperature of a few degrees quite common.
Sunday was an exceptionally pleasant day with a temperatureof about 25 degrees. Monday saw that climb to 35. Still comfortable but at thehigh end of comfort ability. Tuesday saw it climb to 44, a little on the warmside but the night dropped to a comfortable 28.
Wednesday it mellowed and only reached 41 with an overnightof 27. Thursday went a little higher with a top of 44.9 but there was littlehumidity so still comfortable at times. By now the beaches were full both dayand night with people attempting to escape the heat, which by now was gettingclose to a 100-year record.
Friday saw the record broken, four days over 40 with Fridayreaching 45.2.
I managed to spend an hour a day out in the garden reading, timing my return indoors by the amount of sweat from my brow that made thepages of the book wet. The pavers surrounding the house had by now reached atemperature where it was possible to fry eggs on them. As can be seen from theattached photo I placed a coffee tin lid on the pavers and half an hour lateradded the egg.
But we had other concerns, Tuesday and Friday the town wasringed by grass fires, the CFA and Police say most likely deliberately lit byan arsonist. Not unusual at this time of year, but sad when you know that inother parts of the state the fires are consuming property and farm land. Forthe four days the state was on a total fire ban which the local CFA extended todomestic BBQ’s, an unusual move.
But today, Saturday we are in trouble. As I sit writing thisher indoors is looking to pull out the winter jumpers, it has dropped to only23 with cloud cover. If this continues I may be tempted to wear a jumper for aday or so, but no shoes, do not do shoes, winter summer indoors and outside noshoes unless we are going out.
Thankfully the forecast is for more seasonal weather nextweek getting back to about 30, just the way I like it.
In a few short months we will be complaining that itis too cold, what a mad lot we are

Re: Whether the weather?
Yes John
Been watching the News here too,and see that you have had some really hot days there!
The Fires too have been not too good at all,i hope that you soon get a bit of cool relief,so that those poor Firies can get a hold on the Fires and more important a well needed break!
We here also have had some very hot days the past week, but thankfully so far no Bushfires like the last ones we had here!
Got to 33.4 here in Blackheath Today,i think that about a record for here!
But cooler conditions on the cards for Tomorrow, and the rest of this Week,so thank goodness for that!
Keep Cool as you can and stay safe there !
Our thoughts are with all Mebournians at this time!
Cheers
