On my trip on the Amsterdam to OZ this year I shared a table with an American couple, he was a Lawyer from Boston and knew every thing.
During dinner one evening he said "We saved you in WW2."
`You did not` says I ,`We save3d ourselves before you lot came into the war two and a half years after us. We had won the Battle of Britain, we had defeated Rommel in North Africa, we were fighting Germany, Vichy France and Italy on our own. The Battle of the Atlantic was almost won,`
He says , Only because we got the Enigma Machine from the Germans,` [ A Hollywood Movie had just come out a couple of years ago saying the Americans had captured a German Submarine with the Code machine on it,
The British Navy had actually got it a year or two before the Americans entered the war.]

I said `You Americans believe the Holliwood Legends, the biggest propaganda machine in history. You believe in John Wayne, a man who consistantly refused to join the Military.but became an all American Hero in his war films. How Dumb can you get? `
I then told him I was a war veteren from WW2, He says"You are not old enough to be a Veteran",
Me `How old do you have to be?? We were bombed by the Germans, my house blown up, my mother blown up digging in rubble trying to find her, My gang and I climbed onto a burning German Plane that had crashed into the house across the road killing the lady inside and the pilot. We saw more action than most of your Vets.and this was before you came into the war."
He was amazed. `Didnt know that` he says,
His wife says , " Well we fought the Japanese", So I says `So did we, in Singapore, in Thailand, in Malaya, in Burma, the Anzacs in New Guinney* and so on.`
She says `I did nt know that`, I says `Then stop believing in Hollywood`.
I think I educated a Lawyer that night.
They became normal people after that and the war was never mentioned again.

as john wayne would say. give 'em hell bucko.
he has a larger than life statue at the seal headquarters in san diago.
not bad for someone who was never in the military.

They actually worship a Non Hero, great in Films but was he a coward at heart? Lee Marvin fought the Japs but no statue to him.
that Hollywood brainwashing really does work on the Americans.

It doesnt take a lot to be decorated in America,
I attended a Military Dinner, some of the guests were from a US Base in the UK. There was a very attractive young lady Lieutenant with a Breast full of medals. I asked her what battles she had been in, She said "That one is for going on a training exercise in Canada, That one is for another visit to Germany and this one is for being in England`.
I said `you should take a trip to Scotland and Wales you will get some more`. She said ` Oh I never thought of that`
They get a medal for every country they visit. That is why they always have a chest full of Salad.
    Cheers
    Brian..

    Americans are very insular.
A few years ago whilst waiting at a cruise terminal waiting for transport to the airport, I got talking to an American women guide. She had been brainwashed about the EYU and how wonderful it was. I asked where she got the info., from TV and papers.
After a long conversation she was a lot wiser about the EU than she was before and she didn't realise that a lot of the information supplied to them was wrong.
